n Altamont: The Altamont Fire Company is taking orders for a hoagie sale. Orders are due by Dec. 2, with pickup at the fire station on Dec. 8. Varieties include ham and cheese, Italian and turkey. To order or for more information, call Jay at 570-527-3441.

n Ashland: Shepherd's Table free meals are held from 3 to 5 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 35 N. Ninth St. People should use the rear entrance.

n Frackville: Charles Berger, fire chief, announced there are free smoke detectors available for Frackville residents. "Broad Mountain Nursing & Rehabilitation Center donated $350 raised in a raffle to the fire department to buy smoke detectors," Berger said. "The fire department matched the amount. We have smoke detectors at the Good Will Hose Company firehouse for residents of Frackville. We will give up to two for each if they want." n Llewellyn: An event called Rockin' for Autism Awareness will be held Saturday at the Blu Tavern lower bar, compliments of Bob Massari Sr. and Jr. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and entertainment by disc jockey Chub with master of ceremonies Jim Kimmel will begin at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 and are available at the Blu Tavern, 570-544-9919; Missy Hayes, 570-449-3756 and Judy Barket at 570-640-5833. Entertainment will feature oldies and classic rock. All proceeds will benefit the Schuylkill County Autism Society.

n Mahanoy City: The Mahanoy City Senior Community Center and Evergreen Senior Services will hold a holiday marketplace at the center, 138 W. Centre St., from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday in conjunction with the Mahanoy City tree lighting festivities. Participants will be able to enjoy the view of a horse-drawn trolley while sipping hot chocolate and sampling food, including homemade soup, halushki, desserts and other items, organizers said in a release. The event will also include CoalRegion.com gifts from DemmerGraphics, Vinnie's Krafts, Paparazzi Jewelry and A Touch of Country. For more information or directions, call 570-773-0738.

n Mahanoy City: The "Traditions of Christmas in Bethlehem" will be presented from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Cecilia Chapel, South Catawissa St., in conjunction with the borough's annual tree-lighting ceremony. The presentation is sponsored by the Active Christian Teens In Our Neighborhood Youth Group and the Mahanoy Area Ministerial Association. There will be crafts, food and a live Nativity and petting zoo. Nativities scenes from around the world will be displayed. Freewill offerings will be accepted. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras.

n Pottsville: Jim Fritz will present a program titled "Bottlers of Pottsville Past" at 7 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Schuylkill County Historical Society building, 305 N. Centre St. Fritz will talk about the various bottles that he has collected and how bottles have evolved over the years. The program is free and open to the public.

n Pottsville: Small Business Saturday, set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Pottsville Free Public Library, 215 W. Market St., will be a local author showcase. People will have the opportunity to meet some of the authors in the area, buy their books and have the copies autographed. Participating authors include the Rev. Gloria Alexander, Ash Krafton, Joanne Risso, Joseph Baddick, John LaRizzio, Ray Schneider, John R. Buffington, Thomas M. Malafarina, Stephen C. Shaw, Cesya MaRae Cuono, Kevin McMurtrie, Sophia Kelly Shultz, Rhonda Dolen, Larry Merris, Julie Swope, Vincent Genovese, Francis Piacine, Joe Tarone, Lester Hirsh, KimAlyse Popkave, Ozzie Tollefson, Susan Kerschner, Harold L. Price, Robert J. Trout, Stephen Pytak and Elicia Wasonoredjo. Copies of "Schuylkill Stories" by Ione Geier also will be on sale.

n Tamaqua: The Tamaqua Salvation Army is offering local residents the opportunity to enjoy a free Thanksgiving Day meal. Turkey and all the trimmings will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Salvation Army Center, 115 W. Broad St. Delivery options are available for the disabled and the elderly. To arrange for home delivery, call 570-668-0410. Volunteers are needed to help on Thanksgiving Day.
