Weapons of mass

destruction found

AUBURN - State police at Schuylkill Haven charged a South Manheim Township man on Tuesday with possession of weapons of mass destruction - an illegal shotgun and improvised explosive devices - according to a press release police issued Tuesday night.

Tony Ronbo Weiss, 26, who was also charged with possession of prohibited offensive weapons, was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley, Pottsville, and placed in county prison in lieu of $50,000 straight bail, police said.

The incident occurred about 11 a.m. at Weiss's home at 1651 Summer Hill Road, when representatives of the Schuylkill County Sheriff's Department attempted to serve Weiss with an eviction notice, police said.

While serving the notice, police noticed Weiss was in possession of "an illegal shotgun," police said.

"A subsequent search of the accused yielded other objects on his person. The objects appeared to be some type of explosive devices," police said in the public police report.

All improvised explosive devices, a total of 11, were taken by the Pennsylvania State Police Bomb United and transported to the PA Bureau of Emergency and Special Operations for a controlled disposal, police said.

Faulty heater fills

home with smoke

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - An accident with a portable heater filled an apartment with smoke Tuesday night, according to Jim Reed, the borough duty chief who was in charge of the scene.

It occurred at 8:20 p.m. at 32 S. John St., a three-story apartment building.

"Evidently, a piece of flex duct - a flex tube with insulation around it and a plastic coating around that to keep the insulation in place - fell down on a heater, and the plastic on it melted. Their smoke detectors went off and they evacuated. There was very light smoke damage," Reed said.

He didn't know who lived in the apartment.

The building is owned by Roy Nagle of Schuylkill Haven, according to the online Schuylkill Parcel Locator.

Police said Kroh became involved in a verbal argument with a 20-year-old Schuylkill Haven woman during which he punched her numerous times in the face and neck, threw her to the ground and began to choke her while yelling he was going to kill her.

The woman, police said, suffered cuts, bruising and swelling.
