FRACKVILLE - A young boy was flown to a trauma center after he drove his bicycle into the path of a car and was struck Tuesday night.
Borough police said the crash occurred at 8:06 p.m. at Stevens and Frack streets.
Patrolman Anthony Kankowski said Lenny Androsick, 7, of Frackville, was riding his bicycle south on North Stevens Street, downhill, when he approached the intersection with Frack Street. Another child riding with Androsick stopped but Androsick did not, Kankowski said. Androsick entered the intersection and went into the path of a Volkswagen Jetta driven by Heather Bowden, 25, of 132 S. Second St., Frackville.
The impact knocked Androsick off his bicycle, causing him to go over the vehicle and land on Frack Street, Kankowski said.
The bicycle went under the car and was dragged for about 10 feet, Kankowski said.
The boy was treated at the scene by Shenandoah ALS and Frackville EMS personnel and taken to the Schuylkill Mall, where he was placed aboard a helicopter and flown to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Kankowski said the child, who was not wearing a helmet at the time, apparently suffered a fractured leg and other injuries in the crash. He added that at the scene the boy was conscious and alert and spoke with EMS personnel as he was being treated.
Bowden and her passengers - Regina Czechowski, Reading, and Nikita Deesing, Mahanoy City - escaped injury, Kankowski said.
The investigation into the crash is continuing.
