TREMONT - A Pine Grove man is headed to Schuylkill County Court after waiving his right to a preliminary hearing Thursday on charges that he possessed marijuana and drug paraphernalia in October in Pine Grove Township.

Aaron M. Williams, 22, of 83 Moonshine Road, faces charges of possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Magisterial District Judge Carol A. Pankake bound over those charges for the county court after Williams waived his right to a hearing.

State police at Schuylkill Haven charged Williams with possessing marijuana and paraphernalia on Oct. 7 in Pine Grove Township.

Williams remains free on $5,000 unsecured bail pending further court proceedings.

TAMAQUA - A Brockton man charged with assaulting another man in Tamaqua on Oct. 5 had charges against him dismissed after the victim failed to show for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer.

John L. Kamant, 53, of 219 Valley St. was arrested by Tamaqua police Patrolman Joseph Krebs and charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and simple assault and one count each of recklessly endangering another person and harassment.

The charges stem from an assault on William Manness about 2:30 a.m. at 409 W. Broad St. Bayer dismissed all six charges after Manness did not appear in court.

Krebs said he was called to the area for a fight and learned Kamant and Manness had been drinking all night and started to fight for no apparent reason. The two first began punching and then wrestling followed by Kamant picking up a metal drill and hitting Manness multiple times on the head, Krebs said.

Manness was taken to a local hospital for injuries he suffered in the altercation.
