Man charged

with copper theft

GIRARDVILLE - State police at Frackville arrested a borough man Monday for burgling and cutting copper pipes from a home, police said Wednesday.

Joseph Zendrosky, 35, was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, possession of instruments of crime, criminal mischief, defiant criminal trespass, criminal attempt at theft, loitering and prowling at night, police said.

Magisterial District Judge Christina Hale, Frackville, set percentage bail at 10 percent of $50,000. Unable to pay it, Zendrosky was incarcerated in county prison, police said.

The incident occurred at 3:50 a.m. Monday at 137 Preston Ave., Girardville, a vacant house listed for sale which is owned by Francis Weikel, Girardville, police said.

Police said they were contacted while the burglary was in progress. When they arrived to investigate, Zendrosky ran out the front door of the home and attempted to flee from police. He was apprehended on Preston Avenue, police said.

When Weikel arrived at the scene, he reported all copper pipes which maintain the water lines in the home were cut out of the basement ceiling. Physical evidence at the scene suggested Zendrosky was responsible for the damages and two pipe cutters were found in his pockets, police said.

State police at Schuylkill Haven are looking for a woman who picked up a prescription at Weis Market, Pottsville Park Plaza, Norwegian Township, which didn't belong to her, police said Wednesday.
