Lifetime award
Richard "Dick" Fehr received the Billie Payne Lifetime Achievement Award at the Schuylkill United Way's annual appreciation breakfast from Jack Bertolet. The award represents an individual's outstanding commitment and dedication to the organization.
The Schuylkill County business and civic community has benefited from Fehr's achievements and volunteer activities since 1962 when he began his banking career in Schuylkill Haven. When he retired in 2001 from M&T Bank, his banking career ended but his community involvement continued. For his vast efforts, Fehr was named Schuylkill County's Business Man of the Year in 2002.
He has been involved in numerous community groups, including the Salvation Army, Schuylkill Haven Jaycees, SEDCO, Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts, Penn State Schuylkill campus and his church. His involvement with the Schuylkill United Way began a long time ago as he served on the board of directors, as a team captain and as special gifts division chairman.
Athlete saluted
Joe Regalis, a native of Tamaqua and a Marian High School graduate, was among athletes from the 1940s through 2010 who were recognized during halftime activities of the 2013 homecoming game at the University of South Carolina on Nov. 2. The honorees were saluted at Williams-Brice Stadium before a sellout crowd of more than 83,000 fans.
Regalis was a member of the 1969 Gamecocks Atlantic Coast Conference Championship football team - Carolina's first and only football title - which went on to play in the Peach Bowl. He was also a member of the Carolina Rugby team that competed in the Intercollegiate Rugby Championships in 1973.
Regalis is a 1971 graduate of the university. He and his wife, Tish, attended a private all sports alumni reception that Friday at the campus athletic village and an invitation only tailgate party on Saturday. The tailgate party had a corporate sponsor for the first time, Lowe's Home Improvement, the company that employs Regalis.
