PINE GROVE - A fire early Thursday morning damaged a Pine Grove home leaving five people temporarily homeless.
Pine Grove fire Chief Dave Sattizahan said firefighters were called to 241 S. Tulpehocken St. about 5 a.m. and found smoke coming from the attic area of the home.
He said the fire was quickly extinguished and determined to have started in an electrical outlet in the attic area of the home.
Sattizahan credited firefighters for quickly finding the root of the fire and containing fire damage to the attic area of the home.
"The guys did a great job stopping it and keeping the fire damage contained," he said.
The remainder of the home, however, sustained water damage, the chief said.
Sattizahan said the two adults and three children that lived at 241 S. Tulpehocken St. are temporarily homeless.
The American Red Cross Schuylkill Chapter was at the scene and provided assistance with food and lodging for the family.
The agency will also follow up with the family for additional services as needed.
Sattizahan said utility crews were at the home and turned off electrical and water services and shut down the furnace until repairs can be made.
Firefighters from Pine Grove, Ravine and Suedberg responded to the call along with Pine Grove EMS and Schuylkill Haven firefighters, who were on standby in a Pine Grove fire station.
Sattizahan said crews cleared the scene about 8 a.m.
