Woman injured
in accident
ORWIGSBURG - The 57-year-old woman from Auburn flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest has been released from the hospital.
Shirley Solt was released from the hospital Wednesday, a representative from the hospital said Thursday.
Solt was driving a 2010 Ford Fusion north on Route 61 near Zion's Red Church when Anna Harding, 80, of Orwigbsurg, driving a 2002 Ford Explorer pulled into the path of Solt, Cpl. Fred Krute of state police at Schuylkill Haven said.
Harding was at a stop sign at Brick Hill Road and Route 61 and then attempted to turn left on Route 61 to go south and failed to observe Solt, police said.
Krute said Thursday Harding will be cited for the crash.
On Thursday, Krute said Solt was released at 5 p.m. Wednesday from the hospital.
"She got real bad bruising. No broken bones," he said.
Frackville officer
charged by police
LEHIGHTON - Police in Carbon County filed charges against a Frackville police officer after he crashed his 1994 Ford Thunderbird on Route 209 in Mahoning Township about 2:45 a.m. Monday.
Mahoning Township police charged Joseph C. Hahn III, 25, of 257 S. Line St., with careless driving, driving over the speed limit, restrictions on alcoholic beverages and immediate notice of accident to police.
The charges, all summary offenses, were filed with the office of Carbon County Magisterial District Judge Casimir Kosciolek, Lansford.
The four citations carry a maximum penalty of $349 in fines and court costs.
Mahoning Township police could not be reached for comment Thursday on details of the crash that led to the citations being filed against Hahn.
Hahn serves as a part-time police officer in the boroughs of Frackville and Shenandoah as well as an officer in Foster Township.
Tresckow woman
charged with DUI
McADOO - McAdoo police charged a Tresckow woman with DUI after a traffic stop at Kennedy Drive and East Sherman Street about 3:45 a.m. May 28.
Police said they stopped a vehicle driven by Cassie Zapotocky, 20, of 5 W. Cherry St. for not using turn signals and detected an odor of alcohol about the woman and that she had glossy eyes.
Police said the woman failed field sobriety tests and was subsequently charged with DUI.
McAdoo woman
charged with DUI
McADOO - A McAdoo woman was arrested by borough police and charged with DUI after a traffic stop in the first block of West Blaine Street about 3 a.m. May 27.
Police said officers stopped a Mazda 3 driven by Vanessa Horvath, 253 Silverbrook Road, for a traffic violation and expired registration plate.
Officers said they approached the vehicle and detected a strong odor of alcohol, and also noticed that Horvath's eyes were glossy.
The woman admitted consuming alcohol and was charged with DUI after failing field sobriety tests, police said.
Man charged
with assault
McADOO - A borough man was arrested by McAdoo police and charged with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct after an incident at 324 S. Kennedy Drive about 10 a.m. June 1.
Police said David Trzcinski, who lives at that address, will have to answer to the charges before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua.
Police said that Jean Trzcinski reported that her son, David, came home intoxicated and grabbed her by the neck and pushed her into a tree in the back yard causing her to suffer scratches on her forearm.
When officers went to the man's room he told them he wanted to harm himself and was subsequently taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street, where he decided to sign himself in for mental health evaluation and treatment.
Police warn
man about dog
McADOO - McAdoo police investigated a case of confinement of dogs that occurred near 62 N. Cleveland St. about 1 p.m. June 2.
Police said officers were called to the area for a dog growling at a man and trying to get into his home. At the scene, police said officers found a German shepherd on the porch at the home of Juan Angel-Gorbea-Santiago at 60 N. Cleveland St. When officers tried to knock on the door, the dog approached them aggressively, growling and showing its teeth, police said.
Police said two days earlier, on May 31, the same dog was seen running unattended on East Grant Street and it could not be captured.
Officers were eventually able to speak to Angel-Gorbea-Santiago, who said he was watching the dog for a friend and denied the animal was aggressive.
After being warned about possible charges that the dog posed a threat to children and others in the area, police said Angel-Gorbea-Santiago said he planned on returning the animal to its owner.
Hazleton man
charged with DUI
McADOO - A Hazleton man was charged with DUI by McAdoo police after a traffic stop at Hancock and Blaine streets about 2:15 a.m. May 8.
Police said they stopped a vehicle driven by Christopher Pilcher, 728 N. James St., for an equipment violation and found the man to be under the influence of alcohol.
After detecting an odor of alcohol on the man, police said he was given and failed field sobriety tests and subsequently charged with DUI.

with DUI
McADOO - McAdoo police charged a Hazleton woman with DUI after a traffic stop on South Kennedy Drive about 2:45 a.m. April 27.
Police said Friday that officers stopped a vehicle driven by Stacy Samler, 32 David Road, for an equipment violation and detected an odor of alcohol on the woman and also that her eyes were glossy.
Samler agreed to take field sobriety tests and was subsequently charged with DUI, police said.
City woman
injured in crash
MINERSVILLE - A 62-year-old Pottsville woman was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 12:55 p.m. Friday at Route 901 and Interstate 81, Foster Township.
Township police said Akdarov Saidiskandar, 904 E. Clay St., Shamokin, was driving a 2012 Honda Odyssey east on Route 901 when a 200 Dodge Stratus driven by Doris Anderson, 374 S. Centre St., Pottsville, made a left turn in front of his vehicle.
Police said Anderson suffered head injuries and was treated and released at a local medical center. Saidiskandar was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
Three passengers, a 7-year-old girl, an 8-year-old girl, and a 9-year-old boy, in Saidiskandar's vehicle were not injured.
Police said both vehicles sustained severe damage and were towed from the scene. Local fire copmpanies also assisted at the scene.
Rush Twp. police
charge teens
HOMETOWN - A 17-year-old Tamaqua boy and an 18-year-old Hometown man are facing charges by Rush Township police after a traffic on Lincoln Drive about 2:05 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said the teenager is facing charges of DUI-controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and numerous traffic offenses after officers stopped the vehicle he was driving for a violation.
In addition, police said Dominic Montery-Dirzulatis, Hometown, is facing charges of underage drinking.
The charges against the two will be filed with Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua, police said.
Auburn man faces DUI charges
CRESSONA - A 24-year-old Auburn man is facing charges of DUI after a traffic stop by state police at Schuylkill Haven about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Police said they stopped a vehicle driven by Devin Smith after seeing him crossing both the center and fog lines while driving west on the Gordon Nagle Trail.
During the stop, police said Smith showed signs of being intoxicated and was given field sobriety tests before being taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street for a blood-alcohol test.
Police said charges against Smith will be filed with the office of Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier, Orwigsburg, pending the results of the blood test.
231 vehicles
stopped at check
The North Central PA Regional DUI Enforcement Program reported 231 vehicles were contacted, 16 detained and three drivers tested for DUI during a sobriety checkpoint Friday in Minersville.
There were three arrests made for DUI and officers made 16 other traffic arrests, issued two seat belt citations and 17 warning notices.
In all 11 officers from six departments participated in the detail.
