SHENANDOAH - A 33-year-old Port Carbon man charged with stealing more than $400 in items from Redner's Warehouse Market in Shenandoah on April 30 waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker.

Joseph A. Arrigo, 418 S. Lehigh Ave., was arrested by Frackville police Patrolman Anthony Kankowski and charged with two counts of forgery and one count each of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.
In Arrigo's absence, Hale ordered all four charges held for Schuylkill County Count and requested a warrant be issued for the man's arrest.
Kankowski charged Arrigo with going to the home of his grandmother to retrieve some personal items shortly after which it was determined the woman's checkbook was taken from the kitchen table.
Two of the checks from the stolen checkbook were later recovered made payable to "Joe Arrigo" and had partial signatures of "Helen Mackalonis."
Kankowski said that on April 8, Arrigo was taken into custody on an unrelated matter and at that time asked about the checks. The officer said Arrigo freely admitted taking the checks saying he needed money to purchase drugs that he needed.
Kankowski said there were no amounts on the checks and the two were not presented to be cashed. The other checks in the book Arrigo said were destroyed and discarded, Kankowski said.
