Preliminary hearings for a man and woman charged in the shooting death of a Pottsville man were continued Friday by Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley, Pottsville.

Anthony M. Ballard, 26, of 110 E. Tulpehocken St., Philadelphia, the alleged shooter, and Jaimee Jacinta Watson, 19, of the 1000 block of West Market St., Pottsville, the alleged driver of the getaway car, were scheduled to appear at noon Friday in Reiley's courtroom but the proceedings were continued until 12:30 p.m. July 19.

Friday's date was set by Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale, Frackville, who arraigned Ballard and Watson the day after the shooting. Hale is required to set a preliminary hearing at the time of the arraignment but the presiding district judge, in this case Reiley, can reschedule the proceedings.

Pottsville police Patrolman Brian Reno charged Ballard with criminal homicide, conspiracy to commit criminal homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and murder in the first degree.

Reno charged Watson with criminal homicide, conspiracy to commit criminal homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and conspiracy to commit murder in the first degree.

He charged Ballard with shooting Elijah Trayvon Carraway, 19, of Pottsville, near West Laurel Boulevard and Sanderson Street about 8:30 p.m. June 11.

Carraway was pronounced dead at the scene lying on the south side of 407 Laurel Blvd., where he ran after being shot. An autopsy determined Carraway died of a single gunshot wound and Schuylkill County Coroner Dr. David J. Moylan classified the death a homicide.
