n Barnesville: St. Richard Roman Catholic Church, 799 Barnesville Drive, will sponsor a Super Bowl party from 5 to 11 p.m. today in the church hall. Tickets are $3 each. Participants will be able to watch the big game on the parish's large screen. Food and beverages will be on sale. Reservations are encouraged but not necessary. All are welcome. n Frackville: The Frackville Area Fireworks group will stage its first Mardi Gras from 8 p.m. to midnight Feb. 15 at the Good Will Hose Company No. 1, 225 S. Balliet St. The event is for people 21 and older and proceeds will benefit the annual community fireworks display. Doors open at 7 p.m. Entertainment will be by disc jockey 1:01. Tickets include beer, soda and a snack. Other drinks and food will be on sale. Advance tickets are available at the Frackville Free Public Library, 56 N. Lehigh Ave.Call 570-874-3382.

n Mahanoy City: Citizens Fire Company No. 2 and Mahanoy City EMS will hold a Night at the Races on Saturday at the firehouse. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and racing will begin at 8 p.m. Admission is $10, which includes food and refreshments. Horses can be purchased at $5 each. n Pottsville: A blood drive by the American Red Cross Blood Services Northeast Pennsylvania Region is set for 1 to 6 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Salvation Army site, 400 Sanderson St. To make an appointment to donate blood, call 800-733-2767 or go online to redcrossblood.org. People 17 or older (16 with parental permission) weighing at least 110 pounds and in general good health can donate blood. Donors should bring their Red Cross blood donor card or another form of positive identification.

n Pottsville: As a result of funding from the Friends of the Library, three American Girl dolls from the Historical Characters Product Line and a collection of books for each doll have been bought and will be featured in a twice-monthly program, according to a release from Darren DeArment, the library's children's program director, who said the library is grateful to the friends group for this and other contributions for the library's youth programs, including the Lego Club. Fran Lorenz, president of the friends group, said members "are happy to offer the dolls and books for young girls to enjoy." The dolls will be available for loan on a rotating basis. The program provides a special opportunity for children in the community to play, as well as to learn, as each doll kit includes six paperback books, as well as a board game, DeArment said in the release. In addition to the dolls, the program will feature tie-in games and other activities. The theme of the first program, slated for 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, will be a tea party with attendees encouraged to dress up. The program will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. the first and third Thursdays of every month for children ages 5 to 12. n Saint Clair: St. John's United Church of Christ will sponsor a spaghetti and meatball dinner from 2 to 6 p.m. Feb. 15 in the Saint Clair Lions Club building, McCord Avenue. Tickets are $7.50 each and include salad and a beverage. Patrons may eat in or take meals out. Local delivery will be available. The church will also sell homemade bean soup at $3 per quart. n Shenandoah: The Shenandoah Community Watch group will meet at 6 p.m. Feb. 19 in Shenandoah Borough Hall, Washington and Main streets, according to President Gordon Slater, who spoke during the January meeting of the borough council.
