n Ashland: Good Shepherd Lutheran Church holds Bible study meetings at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. every Tuesday in its fellowship hall, 35 N. Ninth St. People should used the entrance in the parking lot to the rear of the church. The study is on "Introduction to The New Testament Community" and is conducted by the Rev. Dana Heckman-Beil, pastor. "In this course, we will survey the New Testament, considering the texts through the lens of community," she said. "The readings provide a vision of the multifaceted challenge of life in the church during its first century."

n Cressona: The Cressona Masonic Hall Association will sponsor a pork-and-sauerkraut supper from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Cressona Masonic Hall, Third and Ash streets. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Meals will also include mashed potatoes, bread and butter, dessert, soft drinks and coffee. Patrons may eat in the hall or take meals out. There will also be a bake sale at the event and bags of sauerkraut will be on sale. Everyone is welcome.

n Minersville: The Minersville Area Skatepark Association will sponsor a takeout-only beef stroganoff sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the New Minersville Fire Company headquarters, 500 Line St. The cost is $7 per quart. n Minersville: St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic School, 515 N. Front St., will have an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. today. People will be able to tour the school's pre-kindergarten through eighth grade facilities and learn about transfer and enrollment incentives. For more information, call 570-544-4581.

n Pottsville: Rotarian Frank Peron, with help from Sylvia Nabholz, gave a presentation on their mid-November cruise to the western Caribbean and the Panama Canal, during a recent meeting of the Pottsville Rotary Club. According to the Rotary bulletin, most of the presentation involved a photo slide-show, with Peron adding commentary on what the audience was seeing. They traveled on a Princess cruise line, and their stops included Aruba, Colombia, Costa Rica, Jamaica and a trip through part of the Panama Canal to Lake Catum. Peron said a larger canal is being built parallel to the current canal to accommodate wider cruise ships. They toured an emerald factory and a sloth sanctuary and spent a full afternoon on the beach in Jamaica sipping "Bob Marleys," according to the bulletin.

n Pottsville: The Schuylkill YMCA will host its third annual Aerobathon fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Y, North Centre Street. According to a release, there will be specialty vendor tables to visit, a Chinese auction, door prizes and a two-hour workout. Membership prizes will be awarded to the top three money-raisers. n Pine Grove: Patrick M. "Porcupine Pat" McKinney, environmental education coordinator with the Schuylkill Conservation District, will lead a Cabin Fever Hike from 2 to 3 p.m. Feb. 15 at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park. Hike participants will check for winter weeds, winter birds and enjoy winter scenery. Participants will meet at the Waterfall Road parking lot. The hike is free, open to the public and suitable for all ages.

n Schuylkill Haven: First United Methodist Church, 420 Saylor St., will sponsor a father-daughter dance from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 16 at the church. Tickets are $7 each and the dance will be "a wonderful opportunity for dads, grandfathers (or) uncles to treat their special young ladies to a real date," according to a church release. Light refreshments will be served and entertainment will be by Dave Evans and the DIASPORA band. To make reservations, call the church office at 570-385-3941.

n Valley View: A blood drive by the American Red Cross Blood Services Northeast Pennsylvania Region is set for 1 to 6 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Valley View Firehouse, 1001 W. Maple St. To make an appointment to donate blood, call 800-733-2767 or go online to redcrossblood.org. People 17 or older (16 with parental permission) weighing at least 110 pounds and in general good health are eligible to donate blood. Donors should bring their Red Cross blood donor card or another form of positive identification.
