Minersville man
jailed after assault
NEW PHILADELPHIA - A Minersville man was jailed after an assault Saturday at 20 Silver Creek Road in Blythe Township.
State police at Frackville said Raymond Washington Brown, 52, was arraigned on charges of simple assault and harassment and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post bail.
Police said Brown got in an argument with a 46-year-old Blythe Township woman, and that at some point the argument turned physical. Police alleged Brown threw the woman to the ground, causing minor injuries to her head and arms.
The woman was able to leave the home and seek medical treatment at a Pottsville area hospital, police said, adding that Brown was taken into custody a short time later.
Ashland man
jailed after assault
An Ashland man was jailed Sunday after being charged by Pottsville police with assaulting his wife in the city.
Police said Michael Walnock, 38, was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah, on charges of simple assault, unlawful restraint, stalking and harassment. He was committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post 10 percent of $35,000 bail.
Police said Michelle Walnock, 44, reported that she was assaulted by her husband after the two had been at Rumors Bar, 661 N. Centre St.
The woman told officers she had been physically assaulted by her husband both outside of the bar and inside their vehicle while in Pottsville, police said. She added that the assaults continued in several jurisdictions while the two were traveling home.
Police said Michelle Walnock was able to contact police after the two arrived home and were separated.
Michelle Walnock, police said, suffered facial injuries and also had hair pulled from her head during the assaults.
2 escape injury
in 2-vehicle crash
CRESSONA - Two people escaped injury when their vehicles collided on Route 901, about a mile west of Glenworth Road in North Manheim Township, about 12:15 p.m. Monday.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Dominic Puglia, 37, of Gordon, was driving a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta west when he lost control on the snow-covered road, causing the car to spin and enter the westbound lane directly in front of an oncoming 2006 Dodge Ram driven by Joanne Hafer, 55, of Pine Grove.
Police said Hafer swerved to the right to avoid a collision but was unable to do so, resulting in the front of her truck hitting the passenger side door of the Puglia car.
Police said that Puglia will be charged with driving at an unsafe speed as a result of the crash.
Police find items
at Cressona home
CRESSONA - State police at Schuylkill Haven said a series of items were found at a borough property.
The items - a brown, zip-up hooded sweatshirt, an HP keyboard, an HP mouse and a brown Belkin zipper bag - were discovered at 11:48 a.m. Friday at 26 Chestnut St., police said.

Police investigate
burglary attempt
GIRARDVILLE - State police at Frackville are investigating an attempted burglary that occurred about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday at 221 A St.
Police said a resident heard someone trying to turn the door knob to the rear of the home and left her dogs out to chase the person away.
The burglar was described as a white man, about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a heavy build. He was wearing a gray hoodie and black pants.
Police ask that anyone with information on the incident or the identity of the burglary to call them at 570-874-5300.
5 vehicles stopped
during DUI patrols
The North Central PA Regional DUI Enforcement Program reported five vehicles were contacted and detained during a Roving DUI Patrol conducted by one police officer from one department.
There was one driver tested for DUI but no arrests made for either DUI or underage drinking.
The officer did make two traffic arrests, two criminal arrests and issued three warning notices.
