AUBURN - Over the last 12 years, Christmas Pines Campground has raised more than $70,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation with its annual Chinese auction.

After the latest event Saturday, the campground added another $13,000 to that total.

The 13th annual Make-A-Wish Foundation Chinese auction raised $13,210.40, according to Lois Dalton, an organizer.

"Our campers have really gotten behind it," Dalton said Monday. "I never thought it would get this high."

It's the largest amount the event has ever raised at one time, she said.

Last year, the campground raised $11,275.

The proceeds raised this year are more than enough to grant Tom Kupres III his wish of getting a "behind-the-scenes" tour of Walt Disney World to see the computer programs operating everything at the park. Kupres, 18, of McAdoo, suffers from hypoplastic right heart syndrome, a condition in which the right atrium and right ventricle are underdeveloped. He will take the seven-hour tour when he and his family visit the park for a week in August.

Dalton said the remaining funds raised this year will stay in Schuylkill County and be used to grant other wishes.

The auction is held every year at the campground the weekend after Father's Day. All proceeds benefit the foundation.
