The public is invited to submit their ideas for a design for the 2014 Schuylkill River of the Year logo.
"We want to engage people in the excitement of the river," Laura Catalano, spokeswoman for the Schuylkill River Heritage Area, said.
When selected, the winning entry will be used by the Schuylkill River Heritage Area and other affiliated partners on T-shirts for the Schuylkill River Sojourn and other programs. All rights for the design will be held by the heritage area and the Schuylkill River Greenway Association, which manages the heritage area.
The heritage area borders the Schuylkill River watershed in five counties: Schuylkill, Berks, Chester, Montgomery and Philadelphia.
The theme for the logo is Schuylkill River, Pennsylvania's 2014 River of the Year. The river received the designation earlier this year after receiving 43 percent of the votes cast for the honor out of 5,527 ballots cast.
This is the second time the river received the designation, having done so previously in 1999.
Entries must be original works of art and should be able to be used in a black and white or color design, according to the rules, and will be considered one entry. The sender must state their name, address and phone number and can send in their creations in two formats, with or without wording, with the combined submission counting as a single entry.
Anyone can enter. There is a limit of two entries per person. All entries must be received by 5 p.m. March 14 and be submitted by email as a low resolution PDF file. Those who enter must submit their ideas as an email attachment to lcatalano@schuylkillriver.org.
The winner will be announced April 1 and will receive $250 and recognition on the group's website and during events.
A complete list of rules is available on the website of the Schuylkill River National and State Heritage Area at www.schuylkillriver.org.
