Pine Grove Area
Becky Evans and William Carlin were named students of the month for January at Pine Grove Area High School.
Becky is a daughter or Lori and Bill Evans, Pine Grove, and studies in the college preparatory curriculum. Her high school activities include basketball, SADD and varsity club.
She is a youth basketball volunteer and served as the Class of 2014's treasurer for all four high school years. Her future plans are to attend Mansfield University and major in early childhood and special education.
William is a son of William Carlin Sr. and Carol and Dean Schneck, Pine Grove. He studies in the college preparatory and advanced placement curricula.
His high school activities include jazz band, Cardinal marching and concert band, student council, FBLA, wrestling, track, cross country, National Honor Society and diversity club. He also served as the Class of 2014's treasurer for all four high school years.
William plans to receive an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania.
Minersville Area
Marisa Knorr and Mitchell Haney were named students of the month for January at Minersville Area High School.
Marisa is a daughter of Randy and Heather Knorr, Pottsville. Her school activities include SADD, yearbook committee, prom committee, TAT, Academic League and chemistry club. In the community, she helps with Minersville Biddy Basketball and at various school events.
Marisa plans to attend Temple University, Philadelphia, and major in pharmacy.
Mitchell is a son of Glenn and Mary Beth Haney, Pottsville. His school activities include National Honor Society, chemistry club, SADD, German Club, Academic League and baseball.
Mitchell volunteers for the Red Cross Blood drive and is a new student orientation representative at the high school. He helped coach at Hardwood Basketball Camp.
Mitchell is a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Parish, Minersville, and a volunteer at its parish picnic. He works at BG's Value Markets.
Mitchell plans to attend a six-year university to earn a doctorate in physical therapy.
Pottsville Rotary
Nativity BVM High School seniors Emily Field and Brady Morgan from and Pottsville Area High School seniors Rachel Naradko and Alex Koinski were honored as Pottsville Rotary students of the month for January.
Emily is a daughter of Joe and Kelly Field, Pottsville. She attends St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, and is involved in volleyball, basketball and track at Nativity. She was named first-team all state, first-team all area, and first-team all district in volleyball.
Emily plans to attend West Chester University and continue her volleyball career.
Brady, a son of Philip and Theresa Morgan, Ashland, attends St. Joseph Roman Catholic Parish, Ashland. He is involved in football, track, math club, Interact Club, science club and National Honor Society.
Brady received the Bausch & Lomb Science Award. He plans to major in biology in college and then attend medical school.
Rachel, a daughter of David and Susan Naradko, is a four-year member of student council and the French club. She is also a member of the Leo, Key and diversity clubs and was nominated to the homecoming court.
Rachel is a two-year Nat-ional Honor Society member and a three-year French Nat-ional Honor Society member. A four-year cheerleading squad member, she served as captain and was named 2013 Schuylkill County Fair Queen.
Rachel is a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Saint Clair. She plans to major in physician assistant studies in college.
Alex is a son of Andrew and Sheila Koinski, Saint Clair. He is a member of the National Honor Society and German National Honor Society, and the quiz and German clubs.
He has been awarded distinguished honors, and his community activities include Boy Scouts and winning an Eagle Scout award for a landscaping/refurbishing project at Boone Park, Saint Clair.
Alex plans to major in computer science in college.
