More arrests are expected after Coaldale police discovered an alleged methamphetamine laboratory in a borough home Friday and took a 33-year-old man into custody.
Police said Jason Shiffert was taken into custody after a search warrant was served at his home at 11 E. Ruddle St. A woman also living at the home will be charged with child endangerment, police said.
Shiffert was charged with operating a meth lab; delivery of a controlled substance; possession of a controlled substance and possession of liquefied ammonia, pseudoephedrine and lithium with intent to manufacture a controlled substance. He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge David Plachko, Port Carbon, who set bail at $50,000 and was taken to the Schuylkill County Prison when unable to post bail.
Police said they will be filing endangerment charges against Jenny Haydt, 21, who is also pregnant. She will face the charge for endangering her 18-month-old child, police said.
According to Shiffert's arrest papers, police executed the search warrant about 2:15 p.m. Friday and then took him into custody for production of meth.
The State Police Clandestine Lab Team was dispatched to the home, according to arrest papers, and found the makings of a meth lab. Some of the items seized, police wrote, had residue on them.
Police posted a warning on the home's door that states "though known hazardous chemicals have been disposed of pursuant to law, there may still be hazardous substances or waste product on the property and those entering the property, inside or outside, should use caution."
Lansford police assisted on scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
