n Pottsville: In a press release, Schuylkill County Treasurer Jacqueline V. McGovern issued a reminder to dog owners that 2014 dog licenses are past due. State law, she said, requires that all dogs 3 months or older be licensed by Jan. 1. Failure to do that is a summary offense with a maximum find of $500 for each unlicensed dog. License fees are as follows: $8.45 for regular; $6.45 for spayed/neutered; $6.45 for seniors 65 and older; $4.45 for seniors with spayed/neutered dogs. Fees collected via the licenses, she said, are used to fund the Department of Agriculture Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement, which "helps protect the health, safety and welfare of dogs." License applications are available at the county treasurer's office. Downloadable applications are available online at www.co.schuylkill.pa.us/Offices/Treasurer/Treasurer.asp.
