ORWIGSBURG - A tow truck driver will not be charged by Orwigsburg police after an incident on Valentine's Day.

Police said Monday that their department has concluded an investigation into the allegations by owners of two vehicles who claimed they were victimized by the owner of a towing company Feb. 14.

After completing the investigation and consulting with the Schuylkill County District Attorney's Office, police said it was determined that A&K Tow Co. owner Kerry Mariano was only defending himself when a gun was brandished at his business and that he has done nothing in violation of the law.

Police said Mariano is licensed to carry a firearm, although no license is required for his business or home.

The aggressor, police said, was determined to be Gregory Dorang, 34, of Hamburg, who is being charged with harassment and trespass.

Police said they determined that Dorang was upset over the towing of his vehicle at police order and brought his anger and frustration to the towing company where he confronted Mariano.

Police said officers spoke with several people involved in the altercation and also viewed video surveillance of the incident before making their determination.

District Attorney Christine Holman and her staff were consulted due to the seriousness of the allegations, police said.

Officers are reminding everyone to be aware to the laws pertaining to snow emergency routes and municipal cleanup operations in order to avoid having vehicles towed.

Those not familiar with that section of the law should contact their municipal government or police department for guidance.
