The state Department of Revenue is accepting applications for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program. The deadline to apply is June 30.
Rebates on property taxes or rent for past year are for eligible state residents 65 and older, people 18 and older with disabilities and widows and widowers 50 and older, according to a press release.
The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 for renters. Social security income of 50 percent is excluded.
The maximum standard rebate is $650, but rebates can be as high as $975, according to the release.
Funding for the program comes from lottery proceeds and slot gaming money.
In 2012, the average rebate for county residents who qualified and paid property taxes or rent was $423.95, Maia Warren, information specialist with the revenue department, said.
State data show 10,637 claimants and $4,509,511 in rebates for 2012, the most recent data available. A total of 2,665 renters shared $1,422,617 in refunds for property taxes and rent paid in 2012.
Forms are available from state Department of Revenue offices, local area agencies on aging, senior centers and state legislators' offices, according to the release.
Those who are approved for rebates will start receiving them July 1.
