n Millersburg: The Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art has announced the first installment of its 2014 Discovery Lecture Series will be "Gone for Another Day," a program on the book of the same name by Pulitzer Prize nominee - and Ned Smith Center trustee and founding member - Scott Weidensaul. "Gone for Another Day" was published by the center in December 2013. The program is set for 7 p.m. March 13 at the center. "Gone for Another Day" is drawn from nearly 50 years of Smith's original field journals and illustrated with scores of his previously unpublished sketches, drawings and paintings. For the past two years, Weidensaul has been culling those journals to select the most interesting and revealing entries. The earliest dates from the summer of 1936, when Smith was 17 years old, and recounts an encounter with a weasel defending its prey. The journals continue for the next 49 years, until the day before his death on April 22, 1985. Weidensaul will discuss the process of editing such a wealth of material into a single volume, and share some of his personal favorite parts of the book. Admission is $5 per person. Ned Smith Center members can use their membership coupons to receive half price admission. Advance tickets are available in the center's gift shop by calling 717-692-3699 or on the center's website at www.nedsmithcenter.org.
