Police charge teen
after car chase
Pottsville police reported Tuesday that they will file charges against a 16-year-old boy who led officers on a pursuit on Saturday.
Police said officers charged the teen following a pursuit that began in the city, traveled on state and local roads and ended when the teen caused a one-vehicle crash near the Ravine exit of Interstate 81.
Police said officers on patrol saw the juvenile commit a traffic violation and activated their overhead lights to conduct a traffic stop.
The teen failed to stop and fled in the Chevrolet truck through Pottsville, onto Route 61, then onto Route 901 and finally onto Route 209 before ending up on Rausch Creek Road near Ravine where he crashed.
The driver was identified at the scene by officers who then contacted EMS for a juvenile passenger in the vehicle who suffered minor injuries.
Police said the teen driver will be charged with Schuylkill County juvenile authorities with felony fleeing or attempting to elude police, two counts of recklessly endangering another person and numerous summary traffic violations.
State police assisted along with officers from Minersville and Pine Grove, police said.
Woman not hurt
after hitting deer
LAVELLE - A Coal Township woman escaped injury when the 2011 Hyundai Accent she was driving struck a deer about 6:20 a.m. Tuesday on Route 901, Sunbury Road, just west of Beury's Road in Barry Township.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Kathleen Purcell, 56, was driving east in the right lane when a deer entered the road.
The woman was unable to avoid the deer and struck the animal, causing damage to her vehicle that required towing.
The woman was not injured ,and police said she was wearing her seat belt at the time.

hit-and-run crash
MINERSVILLE - State police at Frackville are investigating a hit-and-run crash that occurred about 2:15 a.m. Monday on Route 4007 in Cass Township.
Police said Leonardo Firpo, 21, of Pottsville, was driving a 2013 Honda Accord south on Route 4007 when he was approached from behind by a vehicle whose driver was trying to pass on the left.
While attempting to pass, the unidentified driver struck the rear bumper of the Firpo car and then fled the area south on Route 4007.
The fleeing vehicle is described as a silver Toyota pickup truck, police said, adding that anyone with information on the whereabouts of the truck or identity of the driver should call 570-874-5300.
