MINERSVILLE - The Minersville Skate Park Association premiered a skate video during a fundraiser Friday at the Good Will Fire Company No. 1.

The film was called "Good Enough" and produced by Skookillfilms, featuring numerous skaters from the area including Don Reed, Bobby Marhon, Joel Wood, Craig Mohl, Doug Downey and Matt Rathman.

Reed, Saint Clair, owner, videographer and photographer of Skookillfilms, said that they had been working on the film for about two years and that it started off small, but they "just kept going for the last year."

Before its showing for the skate park association, the film premiered at Holistic Skateshop, West Reading, and Homebase Skate Shop, Bethlehem.

"I haven't been able to make it out to any of the fundraising things, so I figured it would be something nice to do to get some people out and get some money going for it," Reed said.

More information about the film is available at www.skookillfilms.com.

Also during the fundraiser event, a skateboard was chanced off that was donated by Holistic Skateshop.

Admission to the fundraiser was free, but the association accepted donations in addition to selling food and drinks.

So far, the Minersville Skate Park Association has raised about $23,000 over the past three years.

It received a $5,000 grant from the Tony Hawk Foundation about two weeks ago.

"It's just been amazing," Secretary Bobbie Domlesky said.

The association's next fundraiser will be a soup sale from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. or sellout on March 22 at the Good Will Fire Company No. 1, 25 North St., Minersville.

It will be takeout only and $6 per quart.

Soups available include bean, beef vegetable, chicken corn noodle and potato, and reservations are suggested.

The association is also selling chances for a 47-inch LG LED flat screen television, which will be chanced off on July 4.

Chances are $3 each or two for $5.

For reservations or to buy chances, call Domlesky at 570-294-6235.

With all of its fundraising efforts, the association is planning to bring the new park to the borough by the end of the summer.

During its March meeting, it was announced that Jesse Clayton, whom the association had hired as its park designer and builder, recently folded up his company, Fifth Pocket Design. Clayton joined Evergreen Skateparks, Portland, Ore., which will now be taking over the project.

Domlesky previously said that Clayton anticipates the association's project could be started, if they agree with Evergreen's proposal, in July or August since he needs to finish a skatepark in June in Rehoboth Beach, Del.

The skatepark will be built on borough-owned land behind the softball field near the New Minersville Fire Company, which the association is leasing from the borough.

The project was will be split into two phases, a bowl and a street section, and the budget for the skatepark is about $95,000.
