James R. Ferrier

ORWIGSBURG - A Philadelphia woman is headed to Schuylkill County Court after waiving her right to a preliminary hearing March 4 on charges resulting from what police said was an incident last December at Penn State Schuylkill.

Tallaya B, Edwards, 18, of 5155 N. Ninth St., faces two counts of theft and one each of access device fraud, identity theft, receiving stolen property and forgery.

Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier bound over all charges for the county court after Edwards waived her right to the hearing.

Penn State Schuylkill police alleged Edwards took a Visa debit card and a check belonging to her roommate, Xiaoyu Cao, in December 2013 on the North Manheim Township campus.

Police alleged Edwards unsuccessfully tried to use the debit card to buy a pair of sneakers valued at $178.99.

Also, police alleged Edwards deposited one of Cao's checks, after forging her roommate's name on it, into her account at American Heritage Federal Credit Union.

Edwards is free on $10,000 unsecured bail pending further court action.

Other defendants whose cases Ferrier considered on March 4, the charges each one is facing and the judge's dispositions of the matters included:

Eric A. Neidlinger, 37, of 501 E. Norwegian St., Pottsville - DUI, disregarding traffic lane, speeding and careless driving; right to preliminary hearing waived, charges bound over for court.

Stephen J. Bayer

TAMAQUA - A McAdoo man charged with a burglary on Jan. 2 at the former Gene's Gray Goose bar at 94 N. Kennedy Drive in McAdoo waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer.

Scott F. Branz, 31, of 40 E. Grant St., was arrested by McAdoo police Patrolman Robert Minnick and charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft, receiving stolen property, loitering and prowling at night, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.

By waiving his right to a hearing, Branz will now have to answer to all seven charges against him in Schuylkill County Court.

Minnick said he was called to the business at 12:20 a.m. for a report of a structure fire and found heavy smoke and flames. Minnick said he saw Branz standing at the scene with a large black garbage bag filled with beer bottles, some of which were leaking and had left a trail from the bar to where he was standing.

Also at the scene, Minnick said, Branz, who was under the influence, placed his hands in front of him and said he wanted to turn himself in. The man said he was in the bar, started the fire and stole the garbage bag full of beer bottles, Minnick said.

The investigation into the arson is continuing by McAdoo police.
