n Barnesville: Naturalist Robin Tracey will lead a hike at 1 p.m. Thursday on the Crow and Lake View trails at Tuscarora State Park. The 6.5-mile hike is rated moderate to difficult, she said in a press release. The trails cross two creeks and go parallel to the lake. Participants will meet at the Crow Trail parking lot off Tuscarora Mountain Road. The hike is dog friendly but all pets must be leashed and get along with other pets and people. n Coaldale: The diabetes support group will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. July 16 at St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus. New members are welcome. Other meetings are set for Aug. 20, Sept. 17, Oct. 15 and Nov. 19.
n McAdoo: The McAdoo Fire Company sponsors weekly bingo games on Thursdays at the VFW/Strand Hall, South Kennedy Drive. Doors open at 5 p.m., early birds begin at 5:30 p.m. and regular begins at 6 p.m. and goes to 9:30 p.m. Parking is available in the fire company lot. Everyone is welcome.
n Pine Grove: A Diakon Living & Learning Midsummer Night Dance is set for 7 to 10 p.m. July 12 in the clubhouse at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park. According to a release, it will be an evening of fun and dancing to the oldies with music by The Sensations. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door and include refreshments. A Diakon Living & Learning Clam Bake & Night Float will be held at the park from 6:30 to 9 :30 p.m. July 20 to take advantage of a summer full moon. n Pine Grove: The Pine Grove Community Band will be performing its annual patriotic concert Thursday at Sweet Arrow Lake Park. The concert will begin at 6 p.m. with the raising of the flag by cadets from Pine Grove Area High School's JROTC, followed by the national anthem, the pledge of allegiance and a singing of "My Country Tis of Thee."
n Sheppton: Residents of Sheppton and Oneida will hold a community yard sale beginning at 8 a.m. July 20. All households in the community are welcome to participate. There is no fee. Donation canisters will be placed in local businesses and any funds collected will go toward this summer's Community Movie Night. n Tamaqua: The Girls Club, formerly Missionettes, meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays at New Life Assembly of God. It is a Christian-oriented club similar to Scouting. Participants earn badges and awards, serve the community and have field trips and other activities. Enrollment is always open for girls ages 3 to 5.
n Tamaqua: The Tamaqua Public Library's 2013 Summer Reading Program kicked off June 17 and will continue through July 29. No sessions will be held the week of July 4. Children ages 2-5 meet from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The same program will be offered both days. Children ages 6-12 meet from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays. n Tamaqua: A the June meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health, Joshua Esposito, borough code enforcement officer, said he received and adjusted 33 complaints, including two leaking sewers, nine buildings condemned as unfit for human habitation, five about dog waste and 20 trash complaints. He also said seven properties failed their health inspections. The board reminded residents that dog owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. Violations should be reported to Tamaqua Borough Hall, East Broad Street, at 570-668-3444. Callers must provide the place, date, time and name of the dog's owner. Citations will then be filed through the office of Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer.
