A child was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest after being hit by a boulder Thursday while playing behind the former Mount Hope School, Pottsville.
A supervisor with the Schuylkill County Communications Center said the call came in at 6:26 p.m. The supervisor said two children, ages and names not available, were playing on a hill behind the school and grabbed a boulder, which apparently gave way.
"I guess he has some pretty serious head trauma," the supervisor said of one of the children.
The child was flown by MedEvac to the hospital and was unconscious, he said.
The supervisor said he thought the extent of the injuries to the other child were minor.
Chuck Bauers, duty officer with the Pottsville Fire Department, confirmed Thursday that the two children were males.
He could not provide any other additional information.
Responding to the scene were the Pottsville/Schuylkill Haven Area EMS, Humane Fire Company, West End Hose Company and Yorkville Hose Company.
