TREMONT - A knife-wielding robber wearing a black mask stole an undetermined amount of money from a gas station just after midnight Sunday morning, according to state police at Schuylkill Haven.
"I don't know what they got but I don't think they got much," Butch Kreiser, owner of Qwik Stop Kreiser Fuel Service, 198 S. Tremont St., Tremont, said Sunday.
In a phone interview Sunday, Kreiser said he has owned the business since 1989 and it had been targeted by robbers before.
"I think the last time was five or six years ago," Kreiser said.
The incident occurred at 12:15 a.m. Sunday when a white man entered the business with a knife and threatened a clerk, a 22-year-old white woman, police said.
Police did not release the name of the clerk and Kreiser said he did not know her name.
He approached the sales clerk demanding money, then followed the clerk behind the counter and she gave the robber an undetermined amount. The robber then fled west on foot, toward the Borough of Tremont, police said.
The robber was described as a white male, approximately 6 feet or 6 feet 2 inches tall, wearing blue jeans, a brown flannel hoodie and a black mask, police said.
Kreiser said the Qwik Stop has a security system in place including video surveillance.
"The state cops will be in Monday during the day to talk to the manager," Kreiser said.
