The Republican-Herald won two awards in the Pennsylvania News Media Association’s Keystone Press Awards for work in 2013, the association announced Thursday.
The staff won second place in the Special Project competition in Division III for “Schuylkill County remembers JFK 50 years later,” a section devoted to dozens of readers’ memories and photographs of President John F. Kennedy.
Sports Editor Leroy Boyer also won honorable mention for his sports story titled “The Dream Job” about Blue Mountain graduate Matt Stankiewitch heading off to play for the New England Patriots in the National Football League.
The sweepstakes winner for Division III was the Beaver County Times, with 10 awards.
The association said it received more than 4,300 entries from 142 newspapers that were judged by journalists from New York. Contest winners will be recognized May 31 at the Pennsylvania Press Conference in State College.
