n Ashland: American Legion Post 434 is interested in re-establishing a community band and in forming a new post dart team. n Deer Lake: A nighttime Easter egg hunt to benefit Make-A-Wish of Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia is set for 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. April 11 at the Deer Lake Firehouse social hall. To participate, people must be 21 or older should get their flashlights and pay a fee of $20, which includes a prize in every egg, light fare and refreshments. There will also be door prizes, 50/50 raffles and disc jockey entertainment by Soundwave Music Co. For more information, call Missy Umbenhauer at 570-385-4494 or Bobbijo Faust at 570-573-3465. Make-A-Wish is a nonprofit group that grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.

n Frackville: The Frackville Rotary Club announced that Noreen O'Boyle, Frackville, will be honored as its 2014 Citizen of the Year at a dinner to be held at the Frackville Elks Lodge beginning at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. A buffet dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., followed by dancing from 8 to 11 p.m. with music by Richie Molinaro and Mr. Lou. Tickets for the event, which must be purchased in advance, are $25 and available by calling 570-874-1109 or 570-874-1700. O'Boyle is a graduate of the former Shenandoah Catholic High School. She is the daughter of the late John and Dorothy Finn, former owners of the Melrose Restaurant, Shenandoah, where O'Boyle waited on tables as a teenager. She was particularly impressed by the Shenandoah Rotary Club meetings at the Melrose that instilled a desire in her to become a Rotarian in order to serve humanity, according to a Rotary press release.

n Lansford: The Panther Valley Public Library, 117 E. Bertsch St. will host an open house from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday to showcase improvements that have been made during the past two years. The library has been repainted with help from the board and community volunteers. New office equipment, computers and computer chairs have been added and eight computers are now available for patrons to use. New library shelving has been installed to increasing floor space. Audio books and large-print books are available, as are DVDs. The library has preschool storyhours, adult education classes and a six-week summer reading program.

n Pottsville: The Type 2 Diabetes Support Group will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street. The group considers a different educational topic each month. It is hosted by Diane Ehlinger, a registered nurse and certified diabetes educator. No prior registration is required. For more information, call 570-621-5020.

n Pottsville: Scott Thomas, Pottsville, and Mary Beth Dougherty, Girardville, have announced their intention to seek re-election to the Republican State Committee of Pennsylvania. Dougherty was first elected to her post in 2000, while Thomas began his term of service in 2008, according to a release from Thomas and Dougherty. They were also elected as delegates to the Republican National Convention in 2012 representing the voters of the 17th Congressional District. Thomas is a former member of the Pottsville Area school board, and Dougherty is a former member of Girardville Borough Council. n Pottsville: The Irish Heritage programs scheduled for Thursday and April 10 at the Schuylkill County Historical Society have been canceled, according to Dave Derbes, society president.

n Schuylkill Haven: The Walk In Art Center, 220 Parkway, will host basket making from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $40 and participants will make an oval tray with a solid wooden base with round reed stakes and wooden beads for handles in their choice of colors. For more information, call 570-732-3728, ext. 303. The center will also host a garden gnomes class from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The cost is $25 and participants will learn to create a garden gnome with his or her own personality, according to a release. It's for people ages 6 and older. For more information, call the aforementioned number.

n Shenandoah: Columbia Hose Company No. 1 will hold a spaghetti dinner beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday at the firehouse, 742 W. Centre St. The cost is $8 for adults and $6 for children. Meals include spaghetti and meatballs, bread, salad and dessert. Patrons may eat at the firehouse or take meals out. Free local delivery will be available. All are welcome.
