DEER LAKE - The former Deer Lake Inn is up for sheriff's sale April 25.

It is scheduled for sale at 1 p.m. in Courtroom No. 1 in the Schuylkill County Courthouse.

The property at 1567 Centre Turnpike, Orwigsburg, dates back to the 1780s.

"Usually the banks take the property back," Maureen Barnes, a sergeant in the Schuylkill County Sheriff's Office, said Tuesday.

Any possible buyers will be bidding against First National Bank of Fredericksburg, which holds the judgment of $171,270.63 and filed the lawsuit that led to the sheriff's sale. Ten percent of the sale price is due at the end of the sale, with the remaining amount to be paid within 10 days after the sale.

The 3,500-square foot property is owned by Warren V. Scheib Jr. and Pamela S. Scheib.

The site was previously home to Country Crafts, a furniture store which opened on May 4, 2007, and closed June 30, 2011. The Scheibs' business had moved twice before, starting in a family garage and then moving to the Fairlane Village mall.

An auction was held July 11, 2012, and an offer for the Deer Lake Inn property made but the couple did not accept it, Nelson Ebersole, an auctioneer, said previously.

Seeking to plan for their retirement, the Scheibs said in May 2011 that they were relocating Country Crafts to the Red Mills Commons Shopping Center in Virginia Beach, Va. The website for the center has no such listing.

The property was on the market previously but was removed due to Chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings the couple filed July 13, 2012.

That bankruptcy was discharged in an order signed Jan. 23, 2013, by U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Robert N. Opel, Middle District of Pennsylvania, Wilkes-Barre.

David S. Gellert, Reading, the Scheibs' bankruptcy attorney, said Tuesday he did not know where they lived and has not spoken to them recently.

William G. Schwab, Lehighton, the bankruptcy trustee, said Tuesday he also had not spoken to the couple and would communicate to them via Gellert.

Court documents show an address of Thornton, Colo., but no phone number provided for the Scheibs.
