n Ashland: Bountiful Blessings, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, helps need-based working poor families in the region from its newest location at First Methodist Presbyterian Church, 901 N. Ninth St. It offers a variety of nonfood items such as shampoo, bath soap, bath tissue, paper towels, toothpaste and cleaning items that are not covered by the Federal Food Stamp program. Beginning April 12, the Bountiful Blessings Ashland site will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Families must show a photo ID and complete current address each time they come to the site. Families with babies less than 24 months old may be eligible to receive baby products if they provide a photo copy of the child's birth certificate, adoption certificate or proof of legal guardianship. Bountiful Blessings was founded in January 2001 and has numerous sites in Pennsylvania and Maryland.

n Frackville: St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church, West Oak Street, will hold a pierogie and halupki sale beginning at 10 a.m. April 12. Pierogies are $7 a dozen and halupki are $2 each. People should call ahead at 570-874-3777 for orders of more than a dozen.

n Girardville: Rangers Hose Company, 6 E. Ogden St., will sponsor a gift card bingo Sunday at the firehouse. Doors will open at noon and bingo will begin at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door and $5 for a second packet. Children can play with the purchase of a second packet. Food will be available. All are welcome.

n Mahanoy City: Post Q Anthracite Region, Travelers Protective Association of America, recently elected Harry O. Meyers, Pottsville, as its president. Meyers has been an active member of Post Q and also Post O, Pottsville, which merged with Post Q. Other officers elected were Dolores Miller, first vice president, and Edwin Miller, secretary treasurer, for a two-year term. The post is still looking for a second and third vice president. Members interested should call Miller at 570-773-3632. Board members elected include Chairman William Kern Jr., Katie Nolan, Joseph Rodick, Angela Witconis, Leah Knapp and Mary Beth Purcell. Kern and Edwin Miller are running for Area Three safety and community service chairman. Edwin Miller was also elected as the post state director with Meyers as alternate. Dolores Miller was nominated for state community service chair. Edwin and Dolores Miller, Bill Jr. and Suzanne Kern and Harry Meyers were elected delegates for the annual state convention to be held May 16-18 at the Holiday Inn, Grantville. The same five will be delegates to the TPA National Convention hosted by the Pennsylvania Division at the Holiday Inn, Grantville, June 22-25.

n Pottsville: The annual Les Brown Weekend Festival will culminate at the Schuylkill County Council for the Arts, 1440 Mahantongo St., on April 13 with events from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., including music by Kim Russell Seibert and Friends. Musicians will include Kim Russell Seibert on piano and vocals, Roy Cumming on bass, Dave Young on drums, Christ Heslop on tenor sax and clarinet and a "special guest" on trumpet, according to an event flier. There will also be a Les Brown memorabilia exhibit and a special guest, Stumpy Brown, Les Brown's youngest brother, who plays bass trombone. Stumpy Brown has managed the Band of Renown for 50 years. Tickets are $15 each and include lite fare and drinks. For tickets or more information, call 570-622-2788.

n Saint Clair: Immaculate Conception Social Hall will sponsor an advance-order-only bleenie sale beginning at 11 a.m. Friday. To order, call 570-429-0302 (mornings only) or 570-429-0581 or 570-628-4676. Proceeds will benefit St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Parish.

n Shenandoah: The Anthony P. Damato American Legion "Medal of Honor" Post 792 will meet at 8 p.m. April 14 at the post home, 116 N. Main St. Directors will meet at 7:30 p.m.
