PINE GROVE - A Pine Grove man is dead after his car hit a tree early Saturday morning along Birds Hill Road in Pine Grove Township.
Joseph M. Jones, 21, was pronounced dead shortly after the accident occurred at 12:50 a.m.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Jones was driving a 1992 Buick 3800 east on Birds Hill Road, just west of Pleasant Hill road, when the vehicle swerved and slid sideways. The vehicle slid off the road and struck a tree with its driver-side door.
Jones, who was wearing a seat belt, had to be extricated from the vehicle with a machine.
Police said speed was not a factor in the accident.
