State police probe

attempted break-in

PINE GROVE - State police at Schuylkill Haven are looking for the burglar who attempted to break into a Washington Township home Sunday.

At 11:22 a.m. Sunday, a burglar attempted to enter the home of Caroline Zimmerman, 71, of 849 Mountain Road, through the basement door but failed to pry it open. Police discovered the pry marks on the door, police said Thursday.

Anyone with information is asked to call state police at 570-739-1330.

Tower City woman

hurt in incident

TOWER CITY - A borough woman driving on Route 209 in Porter Township on Sunday suffered a minor injury when an oncoming vehicle crossed into her lane, forcing her to swerve and hit a guide rail, state police at Schuykill Haven said Thursday.

Natasha E. Hosper, 30, was driving a 2006 Hyundai Elantra north on Route 209 when the incident occurred at 7:05 a.m.

After she swerved and hit the guide rail, police said, the Elantra slid sideways across the southbound lane and hit an embankment.

The vehicle had to be towed, police said.

The oncoming vehicle, which was headed southbound, continued south and did not stop at the crash scene, police said.

Tamaqua woman

faces theft charge

State police at Schuylkill Haven charged a Tamaqua woman with retail theft Wednesday after the woman stole clothing from Super Shoes at the Fairlane Village mall, Pottsville.

Between 4:20 and 4:29 p.m. Wednesday, store personnel observed Rebekah L. Deetz, Tamaqua, attempting to conceal a number of clothing items and a pair of women's Skechers before leaving the store without paying for the items, police said.

Charges were filed in the office of Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, police said.

Traffic stop results

in drug charges

MAHANOY CITY - A traffic stop by Mahanoy City police on March 3 resulted in a Beaver Meadows man being charged with drug paraphernalia and other offenses.

Police said Frederick J. Bobal, 41 Broad St., Box 438, will have to answer in district court to charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and DUI.

Police said officers pulled over a vehicle driven by Bobal for having severe front end damage, a missing fender and no rear lights.

During the stop, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana inside the vehicle and also a multi-colored pipe, commonly used for smoking marijuana, on the driver's side floor.

Bobal appeared to be under the influence and was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street, where a blood test determined he was under the influence of synthetic marijuana, police said.

Police investigate

motorcycle crash

SUMMIT STATION - State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a crash that occurred about 9:55 p.m. Thursday on Stone Mountain Road in Wayne Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said an unidentified driver was operating a 2001 Suzuki GSX-R600K1 west and, after rounding a left curve, traveled onto the berm and rolled in the grass several times before hitting a tree.

The motorcycle came to a stop on its right side next to the tree and the driver fled the scene. Charges of driving at an unsafe speed are pending the completion of the investigation, police said.
