City man faces

drug charges

A man was jailed after being arrested by Pottsville police Tuesday on drug charges.

Police said Eugene W. Kane Jr., 26, of Pottsville, was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge James Ferrier, Orwigsburg, on charges of felony possession with intent to deliver marijuana and misdemeanor offenses of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Kane was committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post 10 percent of $25,000 bail set by Ferrier.

Police said that about 10 a.m., officers were involved in an ongoing investigation centered on 308 S. Second St. where they received information from county Adult Probation officers that led to the seizure of a quantity of marijuana, $320 in cash and numerous items of drug paraphernalia used to prepare the drug for sale including a scale.

A cellphone was also recovered that had evidence of drug transactions, police said.

The investigation led to Kane, who confessed to possessing the marijuana, police said, adding that the man is currently on bail for a 2012 felony drug arrest by Pottsville police.

Police said anyone wishing to report illegal drug activity in the city can call 570-622-1234 and access mailbox 150. Although anonymous information is accepted, a callback number is of greater use and will be kept strictly confidential.
