Accident leads
to charges filed
MAHANOY CITY - An incident about 4:15 p.m. March 21 in the 400 block of East Centre Street led to charges being filed against a borough man.
Mahanoy City police said Kenneth W. VanHorn, 34, of 39 W. Spruce St., was charged with DUI and careless driving after he was involved in an accident.
After showing signs of intoxication, police said VanHorn was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street, where a blood test determined he had methamphetamine and other drugs in his system.
VanHorn will now have to answer to the charges before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah.
Mahanoy woman
arrested, charged
MAHANOY CITY - A Mahanoy City woman was arrested by borough police after an incident about 4 a.m. Feb. 9.
Police said Julia J. Fazio, 47, of 429 E. Pine St., was charged with DUI and obstructing highways and other public passages.
Police said officers were called to the area of Eighth and East Market streets and found Fazio sleeping behind the wheel of her vehicle at a stop sign with it still in gear and her foot on the brake.
Officers tried to wake Fazio three times before she came to and was able to speak to them, police said.
After failing field sobriety tests, Fazio was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street, where a blood test determined she had an alcohol level of 0.112-percent, which is above the legal limit.
Man charged for
writing bad check
MINERSVILLE - Minersville police filed charges against a borough man in connection with an incident on Sept. 11 at Miners Express Notary, 156 Sunbury St.
Police said Thomas L. Unverdorben, 33, of 457 Carbon St., issued a check to the business in the amount of $1,684.20 for services, but the check was returned by the bank for insufficient funds.
Charges against Unverdorben were filed with Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, police said.

faces charges
MINERSVILLE - A borough man is facing charges by borough police after an incident about 5:30 p.m. March 26 at Sunbury and Westwood streets.
Police said Ryan L. Wise, 18, of 310 North St., became involved in an altercation with a person inside a vehicle that was stopped at a red light.
Wise, police said, kicked the front of the vehicle owned by a Port Carbon man, causing damage totaling $1,542.30.
Various charges against Wise were filed with Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, police said.
Woman faces
retail theft charge
MINERSVILLE - Minersville police filed retail theft charges against a borough woman after an April 4 incident at Dollar General, 6 E. Sunbury St.
Police said Vintisha Prine, 28, of 607 Pine Hill St., was seen stealing a men's denim shirt valued at $9.
Store surveillance cameras captured the crime and Prine will now have to appear before Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, police said.
Investigation leads
to charges filed
MINERSVILLE - An investigation by Minersville police into an incident on Feb. 12 at 670 Sunbury St. led to drug charges being filed against a borough man.
Police said Michael A. Eckert, 22, of 201 N. Fourth St., will have to appear before Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, on charges of felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance.
Police said after receiving information from an informant, officers went to the Sunbury Street address and purchased an "eight ball" or eighth ounce of methamphetamine from Eckert for $450.

MAHANOY CITY - A borough man was arrested by Mahanoy City police and charged in connection with an incident at his home on April 5.
Police said Joshua J. Mooney, 26, of 129 W. Pine St., Apt. C, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and will have to answer before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah.
Police said officers went to the apartment after being told that Mooney was threatening suicide. Officers knocked on the door and could hear the man answering in a sluggish tone and, after several attempts, officer were forced to break open the door.
Inside, officers said they found Mooney lying face down in the bathroom and, in plain view, saw a yellow and silver pipe commonly used for smoking marijuana along with a clear plastic bag similar to the type used for packaging illegal narcotics.
