Port Carbon man
faces theft charges
PORT CARBON - A Port Carbon man is facing charges of theft, receiving stolen property and possession of a controlled substance after allegedly taking pills from another man Friday at 19 Pike St.
John Miller, 47, of Port Carbon, allegedly took a pill bottle containing 56 5-milligram Diazepam pills from Pedro Quinonez, 43, of Port Carbon, state police at Schuylkill Haven said.
Police said Miller allegedly entered the bedroom of Quinonez between noon and 3 p.m. and took the pills prescribed to the victim.
Miller was found in Pottsville with the stolen drugs, police said.
Charges will be filed with Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko's office, Port Carbon.
No one injured
in 2-vehicle crash
LEBANON - Two drivers from Pine Grove were not injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday in Lebanon County.
State police at Jonestown said the accident occurred at 8:07 a.m. as Gary W. Southworth, 68, of Pine Grove, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt south on Route 72, behind Susan A. Schwartz, 47, of Pine Grove, who was driving a 2009 Nissan Murano.
one driver swerved to avoid hitting a car stopped because of another car that had stopped.
Schwartz had slowed behind a vehicle that was making a left turn on to Huckleberry Road, Union Township. Southworth could not stop in time and attempted to steer around the Nissan but hit the right rear of the Nissan, police said.
The Cobalt stopped on the right shoulder facing south. The Nissan was able to drive to the right of the shoulder after the accident, police said.
Police said the Cobalt had damage to the left front of the car and the Nissan had minor damage to the rear of the car.
Both drivers and a passenger, Sherry R. Southworth, 68, also of Pine Grove, were not injured.
Southworth was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
