n Pine Grove: A Diakon Living & Learning Midsummer Night Dance is set for 7 to 10 p.m. July 12 in the clubhouse at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park. According to a release, it will be an evening of fun and dancing to the oldies with music by The Sensations. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door and include refreshments. n Pottsville: The fifth annual "Little Bits of Broadway" presentation is set for 2 to 5 p.m. July 14 at the Sovereign Majestic Theater, North Centre Street. The show will include songs and medleys from Broadway shows done by area performers. Several alumni of the first show will perform in the fifth presentation. Everyone is welcome.
n Shenandoah: The 2013 Shenandoah Heritage Day and Parade of Nations will be held Aug. 24 with the parade starting at 10 a.m. with at least 21 nations - representing the community's ethnic mosaic - participating. Lineup will be on North Jardin Street and participants will go south on Jardin to Cherry Street, east on Cherry to Main Street and north on Main through the downtown district to Washington Street, the Pennsylvania Anthracite Miners Memorial and Girard Park. Activities will continue throughout the day in the park, including a performance by the polka recording artists John Stevens and the Doubleshot band. There will be continuous entertainment throughout the day and a wide variety of ethnic food offered by local groups plus vendors, myriad artisans and crafters, pony rides and other activities, including games. The park also includes a wooded mountainside area that offers hiking opportunities. Additionally, the Greater Shenandoah Area Historical Society's history center at 201 S. Main St. and the Schuylkill Historical Fire Society Museum at 105 S. Jardin St. will be open throughout the day for visitors. The event is among the most prominent on Shenandoah's calendar. n Shenandoah: The annual block party sponsored by the Polish American Fire Company will be held Friday through Sunday on the first block of North West Street between Centre and Lloyd streets. The event will feature ethnic and American food, games, bingo and entertainment nightly. Everyone is welcome.
n Summit Hill: The Summit Hill Memorial Day Parade Committee has announced the winners of the parade's float contest. The St. Gabriel Italian Club was the first-place winner, Winnie-the-Pooh Preschool took second place and the Summit Hill Hootenanny Committee took third. The winners received prizes of $200, $100 and $50, respectively.
n Tamaqua: Tamaqua Chamber Night at the Reading Fightin Phils is set for 7 to 10 p.m. July 25 and 26, Christmas in July nights. Twenty-five fans will win game-worn Santa jerseys each night. n Tamaqua: Kids crafting classes are held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through the summer at the Tamaqua Community Arts Center, 124 Pine St., for youngsters in kindergarten through third grade. A craft, to be taken home, will be completed in each class. A $2 fee for each child is requested to cover expenses. Registration is not required.
n Tuscarora: The Strawberry Playhouse will present its youth production of "Alice in Wonderland" at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The production, according to a press release, is directed by local college students and stars children from the area.
