n Minersville: The St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Matthew the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church will sell carnations for Mother's Day after the Masses on Saturday and Sunday. All proceeds will benefit the society's food program.
n Pine Grove: Naturalist Denise "Nightowl" Donmoyer will lead a spring birdwalk from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park. Participants will locate and identify, from sight and song, resident and migratory species that inhabit the park. The trek is free and open to the public. n Pottsville: The 23rd annual golf tournament and dinner to benefit St. Joseph Center for Special Learning Inc. is set for May 16 at Mountain Valley Golf Course, Barnesville area. n Pottsville: The Allied Artists of Schuylkill County will meet at 7 p.m. May 20 at the Yuengling Mansion, 1440 Mahantongo St. Sculptor Angelo Di Maria will speak about his work and create a bust out of clay in 15 minutes. Di Maria is an award-winning artist known for his sculpture of the seven-foot Joe Paterno statue with four football players, the Nittany Lion mascot and the lifesize bust of Pope John Paul II. n Pottsville: The 22nd annual Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers will be held on Saturday. Postal carriers in more than 10,000 communities across the country will collect nonperishable food donations for community food banks and shelters. To donate, people should place a box or can of nonperishable food next to their mailboxes on Saturday before the letter carrier delivers the mail. People are asked to donate items that have a current sell-by date and do not require refrigeration. Donated food items will be sorted and delivered to a local food bank or pantry.
n Saint Clair: The Saint Clair Community and Historical Society will have a Friendly's Family Fun Night from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Friendly's Restaurant near the Fairlane Village mall. During the event, a portion of the proceeds from sitdown and carry-out meals will benefit the society. There will also be baked goods for sale plus a lottery board. All are welcome.
n Shenandoah: A golf tournament to benefit the J.W. Cooper Community Center restoration effort is scheduled for June 6 at Hidden Valley Golf Course, Panther Valley Road, Pine Grove. The entry fee is $75 per golfer (four-person scramble), which includes greens fees and cart. There will be a continental breakfast and registration from 7 to 8 a.m. Tee time is 8 a.m. Dinner will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be door prizes and top three team prizes.
