Penn State

Madeline R. Daubert received a scholarship from Delta Kappa Gamma Xi Chapter, an international society for key women educators.

This scholarship is given to a female from Schuylkill county who plans to become a teacher. Stephanie R. Kaye, DKG scholarship chairwoman, made the presentation.

Madeline is a junior at Penn State Harrisburg campus majoring in mathematics.

Lebanon Valley

Corey Kuchinsky, Orwigsburg, won first place for computer applications at the Phi Beta Lambda's State Leadership Conference that was held April 11 through 13.

Phi Beta Lambda is a nonprofit education association with a quarter-million students preparing for careers in business and business-related fields.

A graduate of Blue Mountain High School, Corey is pursuing a bachelor's degree in accounting.

Lebanon Valley College music students performed half and full recitals on campus this semester.

Local residents who performed include:

Steven Christ, Tamaqua, a graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, performed a half recital on clarinet. He is pursuing a bachelor's degree in music and music education.

Corrine Frederick, Schuylkill Haven, a graduate of Blue Mountain High School, performed a half recital on percussion. She is pursuing a bachelor's degree in music education

John Johnston, Pottsville, a graduate of Pottsville Area High School, performed a half recital on oboe. He is pursuing a bachelor's degree in music education and music.

Twenty-three Lebanon Valley College students traveled to Pendleton, West Virginia, from March 2 through 7 to spend their spring break volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.

Local residents who traveled with the group include Miranda Milillo, Tamaqua, a graduate of Marian High School who is pursuing a bachelor's degree in religion and English, and Corey Kuchinsky, Orwigsburg, a graduate of Blue Mountain High School who is pursuing a bachelor's degree in accounting.

As part of its Inquiry 2014 activities, Lebanon Valley College recognized students at the Spring Awards and Recognition Ceremony on April 10 for academic achievement in the natural sciences, social sciences, or humanities.

The following local residents were among those students who received recognition:

Kiely Chaklos, Frackville, a graduate of Nativity BVM High School majoring in early childhood education and special education, won the Merle L. Wise 1953 Memorial Fund Award.

Kara Gunderman, Elizabethville, a graduate of Upper Dauphin Area High School majoring in art history and history, won the Baish Memorial History Award and Art History Academic Excellence Award.

Alyssa Miller, Schuylkill Haven, a graduate of Schuylkill Haven Area High School majoring in early childhood education and special education, won the SPSEA for Excellence in Teaching Performance in Elementary Education.

Nicholas Muench, Pottsville, a graduate of Pottsville Area High School majoring in chemistry, won the Freshman Achievement Award in Chemistry.

Rebecca Sausser, Schuylkill Haven, a graduate of Schuylkill Haven Area High School majoring in history and religion, won the John Holbrook 1972 Memorial Award.

Alison Semanchik, Shenandoah, a graduate of Shenandoah Valley High School majoring in early childhood education and special education, won the Cloyd H. Ebersole Scholarship.

Lauren Ward, Tamaqua, a graduate of Tamaqua Area High School majoring in music and music education, won the H. Herbert Strohman 1940, Nora Franklin Strohman 1938 Memorial Award and Sigma Alpha Iota Scholastic Award.

Cassandra Eagan, Pottsville, was selected for membership in Indiana University of Pennsylvania's Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society.

An English education major, Cassandra is a daughter of John and Christine Eagan and a graduate of Pottsville Area High School. A dean's list student, she is a member of Alpha Sigma Tau sorority and IUP Dance Co.
