n Barnesville: The first Dirty Dog Jog 5K is set for Sunday at Locust Lake State Park. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the race will start at 9 a.m. Awards will follow. It is a charity event and people will be able to run with their dogs. Charities to benefit include Hillside SPCA, A Diamond in the Ruff Pet Rescue, Ruth M. Steinert Memorial SPCA and the Schuylkill County Pet Food Pantry. For more information, call 570-640-2464.

n Cressona: The Orwigsburg Library at Alvernia University Cressona will host the Veterans Administration from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday to assist and education veterans about the Veterans Health website.

n Frackville: John F. Mellon said in a press release that SALTS who completed training at the Sampson Naval Station and members of the World War II Naval Station as well as retired Navy veterans from other conflicts are invited to the Sampson Navy Veterans World War II Spring Reunion set for noon May 22 at Haags Hotel, Third and Main streets, Shartlesville. According to Mellon, there will be a buffet after which participants will exchange information on Naval status and experiences. The deadline for reservations is Wednesday. n Pottsville: Avenues held its 26th annual Rubber Duck Race April 27 at the Coal Creek Commerce Center, Saint Clair. Debbie Herb was the grand prize winner of $1,000 and Sue Griffin was the second place winner of a black and white diamond necklace donated by Sophy Jewelers. n Pottsville: Pottsville Rotary Club President-elect Eric Lieberman and Rotarian Bill Parulis, during a recent club meeting, gave a preview of a program the club will do over the next several months. On May 28, according to the Rotary Bulletin, the club will the "Pottsville Rotary Draft," in which four teams will be created from all club members. Over a set time period, each team will be awarded points for achieving various goals. The team with the most points at the end of the contest will be the winner. Points can be earned by such things as participating in a volunteer service, organizing a program or recruiting a new member.

n Pottsville: The Notre Dame Club of Schuylkill County will stage The Pottsville Mile race from 8 to 11 a.m. May 26 to benefit the St. Joseph Center of Special Learning Inc. n Pottsville: The concert series of Trinity Episcopal Church, 200 S. Second St., will feature the Copeland String Quartet at 4 p.m. Sunday. Freewill offerings will be accepted. n Saint Clair: The Saint Clair Welfare Council Memorial Day Service is set for 1 p.m. May 25 in the cafetorium of the Saint Clair Area Elementary/Middle School. In a press release, Frank Homa Jr., council officer, said the Grand Army of the Republic ritual has been part of the council's Memorial Day program for "many years" and will be given by National Junior Honor Society students. It will include music and eighth-grade members of the Saint Clair Singers plus a violin solo by Lauren Woollam, a Pottsville Area Middle School sixth-grader. James Corrigan will give the commemorative remembrance service. The main speaker will be Sgt. Maj. Warren P. Parks (retired). There will also be a rifle salute and taps. Members of AMVETS Post 142 and American Legion Post 719 will participate.

n Tamaqua: American Red Cross Blood Services, Northeast Pennsylvania Region, will stage a blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's United Church of Christ, Pine and Biddle streets. People 17 and older (16 with parental permission), weighing at least 110 pounds and in general good health, are eligible to donate blood.
