n Llewellyn: The Branch Township supervisors will present the annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony May 26. The parade will begin at 8 a.m. at the Llewellyn Elementary School, Norm Bertasavage said in a press release. Following the parade, there will be a ceremony honoring all deceased veterans. In the event of rain, the parade will be canceled and the ceremony will be held in the elementary school auditorium. Bertasavage also said Friedens Lutheran Church will present a ceremony at the church beginning at 10 a.m. conducted by the Rev. Robert Reier. Union Church, Phoenix Park, also will host a celebration for veterans at the Veterans Memorial following the Friedens ceremony. Pastor George Somers will conduct the Union ceremony. n Pine Grove: The Pine Grove Community Ambulance Association's annual subscription drive has reached the halfway point. Rates for 2014 have been set at $25 for an individual and $35 per family, according to association President David Lukasewicz. A 30-day waiting period will be imposed on all subscriptions received after the May 31 deadline. Subscription applications are available at local banks for anyone who did not receive one in the mail.
n Pottsville: Irene Kadziela, Manpower branch manager, recently spoke to Pottsville Rotary Club members about the Manpower program. The organization, she said, began in Schuylkill County in 1962 and was founded nationally in 1949. She said Manpower is the No. 1 staffing company in the county and globally, with more than 4,500 offices in 80 countries. Locally, Kadziela and her staff work with employers providing temporary and direct-hire services. She said 90 percent of her candidates get hired. Manpower, she continued, provides all forms of recruitment including skills testing, background checks and drug screening. Manpower is paid by the client and even offers benefits to workers after 90 days, which, she said, is one of the reasons for Manpower's success.

n Pottsville: The music department of Nativity BVM High School will present its annual spring concert at 7 p.m. Sunday in the gymnasium. Musical selections will be performed by the combined partner school band, which includes student musicians from elementary schools St. Ambrose, St. Nicholas, Assumption BVM and Trinity Academy in the Father Walter J. Ciszek Education Center, the Nativity Jazz Band, Nativity Concert Chorus and Nativity Concert Band. The jazz band is directed by Tom Dowd and the other groups are directed by Dale C. Schimpf. Admission is free. Donations will be gratefully accepted.
n Ringtown: The Creekside Restaurant, 116 Ringtown Blvd., will host a dine-out fundraising event for the Ringtown Area Library on Thursday. The restaurant will donate a portion of its sales Thursday to the library. Patrons can also provide additional library support by buying a pinup donation of $1, $3 or $5 now through Thursday.
