McADOO - The borough council voted unanimously to return to around-the-clock police coverage.

Councilwoman Marion DeBalko asked for the vote at Tuesday's meeting after saying it is time to return to around-the-clock coverage following a recent drug raid by borough police.

Two members of the council, while voting in favor of the change, expressed concerns that there would be enough money in the budget to pay for the additional four hours of coverage a day.

McAdoo's police coverage was 20 hours a day.

Police Chief Jeff Wainwright also praised his officers for a job well done and everyone attending gave his department a round of applause.

The council also voted 7-0 to advertise for part-time police officers.

In another police item, the council moved a step closer to putting a new firm in charge of the department's pension fund.

The council voted 4-3 to entertain the appointment of Univest to manage the fund for three full-time officers. Council members DeBalko, Joe Madochick, John Shigo and Clara Preputnick voted in favor and Mary Labert, William Slovik and John Perhonitch opposed it.

The council must still review the process with solicitor Joseph Baranko to reach the final stage. If everything is in order, the council will take a final vote next month to put Univest in charge of the pension fund.

Store driveway

The council approved a change in the driveway for the new Dollar General store on Hancock Street. Madochick said instead of three lanes coming out of the parking lot there will be two lanes, one for both a left turn and going straight, and the other for turning right.

Slight changes also were made so that vehicles' lights do not shine into homes across the street.

Dollar General Civil and Environmental Inc. asked for the changes, which the council approved on a 7-0 vote.

Complaints

Two neighbors complained about a home along the 200 block of Jackson Street where loud parties are held every Sunday from 10 p.m. to the early-morning hours of Monday.

The council asked police to look into the complaint.

Brian Kolbush asked the council about the sewer authority board voting to exempt members from paying sewer bills starting in 2014.

Kolbush had minutes of the authority board meeting and showed them to the council. However, the council called authority board chairman Ron Simasek, who said a revised version of those minutes was approved.

Simasek also said the board's solicitor advised it not to take such action, and board members agreed.

In other business, the Council also:

- Accepted the resignation of zoning hearing board member Thomas Wisniewski for health reasons and approved advertising for a replacement.

- Tabled a decision on whether to rent a lot on West Blaine Street from Wisniewski for further discussion. He suggested that the borough could install parking meters on the lot to get extra revenue.

- Granted permission to Church of All Saints to hold its annual parish festival on June 29 and 30, and to St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church to hold its annual parish picnic from Aug. 16 to 18. Both votes were 7-0.
