Man wanted in

McAdoo found

McADOO - McAdoo police reported a man who ran from officers during a traffic stop in the borough on Dec. 16 was captured Thursday in Allentown.

Police said Victor S. Rivera was apprehended on attempted homicide charges from Wilson Borough in Lehigh County and will also be charged by McAdoo police with DUI, fleeing or attempting to elude police, leaving the scene of an accident, window and wiper violations and other traffic and drug related offenses.

Police said officers pulled a vehicle over about 1 a.m. and when the officer walked up to the vehicle the driver, later identified as Rivera, took off crashing into a Dodge RAM and then fleeing on foot.

In Allentown on Thursday, police said Rivera was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by officers who later determined he was wanted by police in McAdoo and California as well.

HOMETOWN - Rush Township police reported details of five incidents investigated recently in their coverage area.

Police said on Tuesday about 7:25 p.m., Wendy Garrity, 29, of Coaldale, was charged with theft and receiving stolen property after she stole a purse from an employee at the Turkey Hill Minit Mart on Route 309.

On Wednesday, police said Matthew R. Rhodes, 29, of Reedy, W.V., is facing charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was stopped for a traffic violation.

Police said Rhodes was stopped for running a red light on Mahanoy Avenue and found with a marijuana bowl in his possession.

Also on Wednesday, about 5:20 p.m., police said a 24-year-old woman is facing possession of drug paraphernalia charges after officers found a needle and spoon inside her vehicle during a traffic stop.

Police said the woman was wanted on a bench warrant from Lehigh County and was committed to Schuylkill County Prison.

Later that day, about 7:30 p.m., police said they charged Christopher Schweibinz, 24, of Lansford, with retail theft after he stole items valued at $13.76 from Wal-Mart.

Finally, police said officers are investigating a theft that occurred recently on Crest Street in Grier City where the only item taken was a camera.

face charges

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - A woman and her sister, both of Pottsville, along with a Schuylkill Haven man were charged by Schuylkill Haven police after an incident at 2:30 p.m. June 20.

Police said officers were called to 705 N. Garfield Ave. for a dispute and found Sara Miller, 28, and her sister, Shana Miller, 30, trying to get property from the home of Stephen Richardson, 45.

During the investigation, the three became disorderly and the Miller sisters agreed to be taken to their home in Pottsville.

Police said Sarah Miller will be charged with public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and littering while Shana Miller and Richardson will be charged with disorderly conduct.

Counterfeit bill

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - Schuylkill Haven police are investigating a theft with a fake $50 bill that was presented at the Shell Gas Station on Route 61 on June 20.

Police said a man entered the store where he used a $50 bill to pay for $20 in gas receiving $30 in change.

It was later determined the bill was counterfeit and similar to a $50 bill used at the Aldi store with both having the same serial number.

The investigation led police to learn from state police at Schuylkill Haven that similar bills were used at other county businesses as well as at businesses in Monroe and Lehigh counties.

Police said a suspect has been identified and that no name is being released until the investigation is complete and an arrest made.

Teen faces drug,

other charges

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - A 16-year-old is facing charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct and loitering and prowling at night by Schuylkill County juvenile authorities after an incident in the borough on June 22.

Police said they were called to Paxson Avenue for a report of someone trying to steal a motorcycle, detained the juvenile and during a pat down search found a marijuana smoking pipe and a white tube that contained a white substance later determined to be methamphetamine.

The juvenile was later interviewed in the presence of a parent and admitted using bath salts the night before the incident but refused to identify who provided the narcotics, police said.

DUI charge

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - A traffic stop by Schuylkill Haven police about 2:30 a.m. June 23 led to charges of DUI and other traffic violations being filed against a 28-year-old Seltzer man.

Police said officers pulled over a vehicle driven by James Kervitis after seeing him try and pass other vehicles in a no passing zone and then a police cruiser, all while in a curve in the roadway.

Kervitis was determined to be under the influence and taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street, where a blood test determined he had an alcohol level of 0.174-percent, more than two times the legal limit.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - Schuylkill Haven police said they investigated three incidents in their borough on June 23.

Police said that about 4:14 p.m., a parent contacted officers saying marijuana was found in their 15-year-old son's bedroom. Officers were given permission to search the home and found a marijuana smoking pipe, along with the marijuana found by the parents.

Charges against the teen will be filed with Schuylkill County juvenile authorities, police said.

Then, about 5:30 p.m., officers said Lori Sockel, 423 Parkway, said that sometime June 22 someone entered her garage and stole two drills valued at about $1,000.

Police ask that anyone with information call them at 570-385-9111 and also remind all residents to always make sure their homes, vehicles and garages are secured and locked at all times.

Also on June 23 about 10:30 p.m., police said officers were called for an argument between a man and woman inside a vehicle at the Shell Gas Station parking lot.

The driver of a car in the area, Nicole Elinsky, 31, of Coatesville, failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody for DUI, police said, adding that a passenger in the vehicle, Sean Hufferd, 42, of Honeybrook, was cited for disorderly conduct.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - Schuylkill Haven police reported receiving an iPod that was found on June 22 at the Schuylkill Haven High School track.

Anyone wishing to claim the iPod is asked to call police at 570-385-9111.

Man faces charges

of assault on police

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - A 47-year-old borough man was arrested by Schuylkill Haven police after an incident at his home at 10:15 a.m. June 28.

Police said officers were called to the home of Thomas Elliott for a welfare check and when the man answered the door he demanded officers leave and pushed one in the chest. The man was told to sit on his sofa and as officers were talking with him, Elliott became enraged and lunged at the officers with closed fists.

As Elliott resisted being taken into custody, police said officers were forced to use their Taser guns three times before being able to gain control of the man.

Elliott now faces charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, simple assault and resisting arrest, police said.
