TAMAQUA - A Newkirk man charged with assaulting a woman on Dec. 29 at a Tamaqua home waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer.

By waiving his right to a hearing, Englert will have to answer to both charges in Schuylkill County Court.

Bekesy charged Englert with assaulting Patti Sue Coleman at 324 Van Gelder St. by punching her in the mouth because she said she did not want him staying at her home.

Englert fled into a wooded area near Odd Fellows Cemetery and could not be located the evening of the assault, Bekesy said.
