A Luzerne County man admitted Thursday in Schuylkill County Court that he drove under the influence and possessed drugs in December 2012 in West Mahanoy Township.
Jose L. Tejeda, 23, of Hazleton, pleaded guilty to DUI, possession of a controlled substance and disregarding traffic lane. Prosecutors withdrew charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a vehicle without valid inspection.
Judge Cyrus Palmer Dolbin accepted Tejeda's plea and sentenced him to spend 72 hours to six months in prison, pay costs, a $25 fine, $100 to the Substance Abuse Education Fund, $50 to the Criminal Justice Enhancement Account, a $100 bench warrant fee and $113 restitution to the state police crime laboratory in Bethlehem, and perform 10 hours community service.
West Mahanoy Township police had alleged Tejeda was DUI and possessed drugs on Dec. 9, 2012, in the township.
President Judge William E. Baldwin had issued two bench warrants for Tejeda, the first on Oct. 17, 2013, and the second on March 10, each time for failing to appear for a pre-trial conference.
In other recent county court action, Judge John E. Domalakes accepted guilty pleas from, and, pursuant to agreements between prosecutors and defendants, imposed the indicated sentences on, these people:
Steven M. Smith, 27, of Pine Grove; fleeing or eluding police and driving under suspension; 12 months probation and $200 fine. Prosecutors withdrew a charge of careless driving.
George M. Smith, 64, of New Ringgold; DUI; five years in the intermediate punishment program, $1,500 fine, $300 SAEF payment and $60 restitution to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street. Prosecutors withdrew a charge of disregarding traffic lane.
Gregory A. Taylor, 28, of Shenandoah; fleeing or eluding police and disregarding traffic lane; 23 months probation, $25 fine and $50 CJEA payment. Prosecutors withdrew two counts of disregarding traffic lane and one count each of driving under suspension, driving unregistered vehicle and careless driving.
Matthew R. Taylor, 21, of Orwigsburg; disorderly conduct; $100 fine. Prosecutors withdrew a charge of escape.
Bryant M. Umboltz, 20, of Dalmatia; DUI, failure to drive at a safe speed and operating vehicle without valid inspection; 90 days to five years in prison, $1,550 in fines, $100 SAEF payment and $60 restitution to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street. Prosecutors withdrew charges of driving under suspension-DUI related, disregarding traffic lane, careless driving and reckless driving.
Autum J. Williams, 24, of Mahanoy City; retail theft and receiving stolen property; 12 months probation and $50 CJEA payment.
April M. Yurkonis, 35, of Frackville; DUI; 72 hours to six months in prison, $1,000 fine, $300 SAEF payment and $60 restitution to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street. Prosecutors withdrew a charge of failure to use lights when required.
All defendants who were sentenced must pay costs as a part of their sentences.
