We're well into summer. Are you bored yet? Why not use some of your time off for a staycation and donate your talents to one of our local nonprofits? Budget cuts have led to reductions in staff or putting off completing their to-do list. You can help fill the gaps. Contact your local nonprofit to see what you can do for them.

Does your teen need community service hours to graduate? Summer is the best time to get those hours in. You can find volunteer opportunities to suit every personality at www.schuylkill.us/cvia. Good luck and have fun.

Diakon Living and Learning After 50 has several events they'd like to invite you to. A Midnight Summer Dance will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Sweet Arrow Lake Clubhouse. A clam bake and night float will take place at 6:30 p.m. July 20, also at the clubhouse. Finally, save the date for an oldies dance on Sept. 9 at Lakeside Ballroom. Call 624-3018 for ticket info.

The Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce reminds you that its summer concert series is in full swing with free live entertainment the first and third Thursdays though September.

Missed the Tuscarora kayaking classes? No fear, there's another one at 1 p.m. Saturday. Pre-registration is required by calling 467-2506 or in person. Discounted fee applies if you bring your own equipment. Children must be age 12 and older. The event will be cancelled in inclement weather.

This month, Schuylkill United Way will "Stuff the Bus" at the Cressona, Fairlane Village, and Schuylkill malls. Thanks to the annual event, every year many hundreds of children are better prepared to start their school year off on a good foot. You can donate by dropping off school supplies in one of the convenient event vans.

Community Volunteers in Action will be hosting an informational seminar and meet and greet with Lori Michael, owner of Lori's Angels, to discuss medical and non-medical home care services, insurance coverage and everything you need to know about what's available to help your loved elderly or disabled relative be able to remain in their home longer.

The free seminar will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Lori's Angels, 25 W. Main St., No. 1, Schuylkill Haven. Seating is limited, and attendees are asked to RSVP by July 26 by calling this office at 628-1426 or emailing jjohnston@co.schuylkill.pa.us.
