ORWIGSBURG - A North Manheim Township woman is headed to Schuylkill County Court after waiving her right to a preliminary hearing Monday on charges stemming from an incident in March at the Schuylkill Haven state police station.
Tammy Lee Weidman, 33, of 75 E. Adamsdale Road, Schuylkill Haven, faces charges of simple assault and resisting arrest. Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier bound over those charges for court after Weidman waived her right to the hearing,
Prosecutors withdrew a charge of aggravated assault.
State police at Schuylkill Haven alleged Weidman arrived between 6:04 p.m. and 6:31 p.m. March 28 at the station at 23 Meadowbrook Drive, Reedsville, Wayne Township.
When Weidman left the station, she said she would kill herself, prompting Trooper Jeffrey Hummel to follow her out of the building, according to police.
Once outside, Weidman asked Hummel to shoot her, prompting him to say he would take her to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street for an involuntary mental health evaluation, police said. That led to a struggle, and Hummel handcuffed Weidman, police said.
Hummel then put Weidman in a patrol car, but while he was doing so, she bit him on the left arm, leaving teeth marks, according to police. Eventually, Weidman had to be Tased in order to calm her, police said.
Weidman is free on $5,000 unsecured bail pending further court action.
Also on Monday, Gregory D. Eckert, 20, of 32 Jane Ave., Schuylkill Haven, waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Ferrier, on charges of driving under the influence, careless driving and seat belt violation. Ferrier bound over those charges for court, with prosecutors withdrawing a charge of purchase, consumption, possession or transportation of an intoxicating beverage.
