n Girardville: Curbside recycling in the borough is set for Friday. All recyclables can be placed out in one day, according to a press release from the borough hall. Acceptable items include newspapers and cardboard, clear, brown and green glass and metal cans as well as plastics Nos. 1 and 2. Newspapers must be bundled and tied or in brown paper bags and cardboard must be flattened. Glass must be placed in one container and cans in another. Schuylkill County Drop-Off Recycling Program Dumpsters are on site permanently near the borough hall. The recycling center is open to any Schuylkill County resident. Recyclables must be placed in the correct sections of the Dumpsters and people must remove all glass, cans and plastics from plastic bags before placing the items in the Dumpsters. People may not leave items outside the gates if they are locked. Leaving nonrecyclable items at the site is considered littering. If the bins are full, people may not leave recyclables on the ground or on top of the bins. Violators can face fines.

n Danville: Model train enthusiasts everywhere are welcome to attend the free trains program, held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays, at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, Pine and East Market streets. Dozens of trains are available for the amusement of children and adults.

n Heckscherville: The sixth annual Heritage Day in the Valley, sponsored by the Friends of St. Kieran, is set for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 1 at the Clover Fire Company grounds. The event will include the Cass Township Ancient Order of Hibernians Memorial Walk and Ceremony at 11 a.m., led by a bagpiper to St. Kieran Cemetery to honor deceased members. All are welcome to participate in the walk by registering at the fire company grounds. After the walk, participants will return to the fire company for history, genealogy, music, dance, food, vendors and other activities. No outside food, beverages or coolers will be allowed. n Millersburg: The Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art will feature The Art of Tom Duran Jr. at 7 p.m. June 12 as the next installment of its 2014 Discovery Lecture Series, sponsored by Sid and Evelyn Hostetter.
