NEW PHILADELPHIA - A Shenandoah man died Sunday in Blythe Township after suffering injuries in a motorcycle accident, according to state police at Frackville.
At 12:30 p.m., Travis McGee, 23, who was wearing a helmet, gloves and goggles, was driving a Kawasaki KX250 motorcycle along a dirt road off the Burma Road when he struck a metal gate blocking the road and then a utility pole, police said.
Police said friends riding behind him called 911. The Pottsville/Schuylkill Haven/Orwigsburg Area EMS transported McGee to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.
At 1:32 p.m., McGee was pronounced dead by Deputy Coroner Gail Newton, according to Schuylkill County Coroner Dr. David J. Moylan III.
"He must have ruptured some internal organs," Moylan said Sunday.
Moylan plans to do a virtual autopsy today at the Simon Kramer Institute, New Philadelphia, in an effort to determine an exact cause of death.
"We'll be looking at the neck and the chest for internal bleeding, etcetera," Moylan said.
A virtual autopsy is a noninvasive procedure which will allow Moylan to examine the body through 3D imagery provided by a CAT scan.
The motorcycle McGee was driving sustained moderate damage, police said.
Saint Clair Rescue Hook and Ladder were among the responders.
