n Gordon: Members of the Gordon Area Senior Citizens held a memorial service on May 30 for deceased members Margaret Huhn, Donald Lucas and Florence Heiser. Grace Jones conducted the ceremony and Joann Young lighted the candles. The seniors also paid homage to veterans and the men and women in the armed forces. They recited the Lord's Prayer at the conclusion of the ceremony. The Gordon group is marking its 44th anniversary.

n Newtown: The Newtown Volunteer Fire Company will sponsor an advance order-only cheesesteak sale from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the firehouse, 36 Wood St. The cost is $6 each. n Orwigsburg: A free concert by the Cressona Band will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Genesis Healthcare Orwigsburg Center, 1000 Orwigsburg Manor Drive. The concert is open to the public, sponsored by Genesis Healthcare, USS Achey and Boyer's Food Markets. People should bring a lawn chair to enjoy the music. For more information, call 570-622-8784.

n Pottsville: Theresa Santai-Gaffney, Schuylkill County register of wills and clerk of the orphans' court, released the following report for May: Estates processed, 84; marriage licenses issued, 109; inheritance tax remitted to the commonwealth, $573,133.31; county fees collected, $20,052.25. There were no adoptions completed, according to the report.

n Reading: The Reading Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Andrew Constantine, will present a free community concert at 8 p.m. July 4 at FirstEnergy Stadium, home of the Reading Fightin Phils, sponsored by the Berks County Community Foundation. The rain date is July 5. It will feature patriotic selections to mark Independence Day. Free tickets for the event are available at FirstEnergy Stadium and local Boscov's courtesy desks while supplies last. The RSO will also collect nonperishable food items and canned goods to support the Greater Berks Food Bank. Everyone is encouraged to bring a canned good or nonperishable food item to the concert as a donation. n Schuylkill Haven: A Wythe family fundraiser spaghetti dinner will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. June 28 in the First United Church of Christ social hall, 110 Route 61 South. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 10 and younger. Meals will include spaghetti, meatballs, tossed salad, bread, beverages and dessert. Proceeds will benefit the Saint Clair fire victims. n Shenandoah: The Greater Shenandoah Area Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. July 1 at its 201 S. Main St. history center. The speaker will be Patrick M. "Porcupine Pat" McKinney, environmental education coordinator with the Schuylkill Conservation District. His topic will be Indian sign language. There is no admission fee and the public is invited to attend.

n Shenandoah: The Greater Shenandoah Area Senior Citizens hold a weekly get-together at noon Wednesdays at the senior center, Washington and Market streets. Participants enjoy lunch and play bingo. New members are welcome. For more information, call 570-462-1965.

n Tamaqua: The Tamaqua Community Arts Center will offer a summer ballet workshop if there is enough interest. The workshop will be open to potential dancers between the ages of 8-18 and would be offered by Florence Geise, who has more than 40 years of ballet experience. Geise trained in New York and with the Russian Ballet School. She also directed the Schuylkill Ballet Theatre's production of "The Nutcracker" for more than 20 years.
